The Celebrity Traitors has been a hit with viewers, but one famous face has admitted they would never appear on the show

A Harry Potter actress has disclosed that she turned down the chance to join the BBC’s celebrity version of The Traitors.

The Celebrity Traitors is now broadcasting on BBC One twice weekly, featuring 19 well-known personalities battling it out as Faithfuls and Traitors in order to bag some cash for charity.

The star-studded line-up includes talk show presenter Jonathan Ross, funnyman Alan Carr and television personality Stephen Fry, with Claudia Winkleman back at the helm.

Miriam Margolyes, who played Professor Sprout in the wizarding film franchise, revealed she’d been invited to participate but declined the offer.

Speaking at the Cheltenham Literature Festival while promoting her new publication, The Little Book Of Miriam, the 84-year-old performer didn’t hold back in her criticism of the programme, confessing there was nothing “I’d rather less do” – despite having never actually viewed it, reports the Daily Record.

“I can’t think of anything I’d rather less do,” she declared. “No, I’m not into that. I’ve never watched it, I don’t intend to watch it. There is some jolly good people doing it.

“And if they want to do it for money, well, that’s fair enough but you won’t get me on it.”

Three famous faces have already been eliminated from the competition: vocalist Paloma Faith, Olympic champion Tom Daley and actress Ruth Codd.

Additionally, three others – content creator Niko Omilana, EastEnders favourite Tameka Empson and sports presenter Clare Balding – were voted out by fellow contestants after falling under suspicion of being a Traitor.

The actual Traitors of the game are Jonathan Ross, Alan Carr and singer Cat Burns, who were all assigned the role at the beginning of the series. However, Jonathan has found himself under increasing scrutiny after he was caught promising to form an ‘alliance’ with Niko, Clare and Ruth, only to quickly vote to banish Niko.

Viewers will have to hold their breath for a few more days before they can see what drama unfolds in the next episode, as new instalments are broadcast twice a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The Celebrity Traitors series will consist of nine episodes, while the civilian series stretches to 12.

Speaking about the star-studded series, presenter Claudia confessed that she had attempted to give “big clues” to the celebrities during the challenges, which landed her in trouble with the show’s bosses.

The Celebrity Traitors airs Wednesday and Thursday at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer
