Alan Titchmarsh has been a regular face on television for many years, but the Love Your Weekend host has never taken to the dance floor on Strictly Come Dancing.

Love Your Weekend presenter Alan Titchmarsh has revealed the genuine reason why Strictly Come Dancing enthusiasts will never witness him gracing the legendary ballroom.

The television host, celebrated as one of Britain’s finest horticulturists, confessed that he has declined the opportunity to participate in the BBC’s popular dancing show because of his spouse.

Alan returned to screens on Sunday (October 26) morning for another instalment of ITV’s Love Your Weekend.

Once more, the beloved gardening authority highlighted some of the most wonderful elements of Britain’s rural landscape, featuring arts, crafts, production and regional delicacies.

He was accompanied by several guests including farming duo Kelvin and Liz Fletcher, and it wasn’t long before the discussion turned to the former Emmerdale actor’s stint on Strictly Come Dancing, reports Wales Online.

Kelvin, who entered the programme as an eleventh-hour substitute for Jamie Laing, claimed victory on Strictly in 2019 with his professional dancing companion Oti Mabuse.

They were crowned champions after the public vote in the grand final, beating out finalists Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden, and Emma Barton and Anton Du Beke.

Alan enquired: “When you went on Strictly, how confident were you?”

Kelvin confessed: “I was confident in myself, to give everything I could and to learn.

“I knew full well how challenging it can be because I didn’t consider myself a good dancer as such.”

He went on: “There were a lot of nerves there but I think with the show you just have to go in and back yourself and just do your best.”

The actor, who is widely recognised for his part as Andy Sugden in the ITV soap opera, revealed: “It was a great experience but very, very challenging and very hard. It was probably one of the hardest things I’ve done in many ways.

“Every week you are learning a new discipline and there is so much to take on but it was a great experience and one that I’ll always look back on.”

Shifting his focus to Alan, Kelvin was swift to enquire: “Alan would you be a good dancer?” The TV host confessed: “Well no.”

The television personality then disclosed why he is forbidden from taking to the dance floor, confessing: “My wife used to teach it so I’m not allowed to go on Strictly because she said my knees wouldn’t take the lift.”

Strictly Come Dancing returns tonight at 7:15pm, where the results show will unveil which couple will be the next to face elimination.

Love Your Weekend airs Sundays from 9:30am on ITV1 and ITVX and Strictly Come Dancing returns Saturday at 6.55pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
