Don’t sit down, don’t take a breath, don’t even think about closing your eyes, because Milan Fashion Week is here, hot off the heels of London and New York — and it’s already looking suitably starry.
The third portion of Fashion Week kicked off on Tuesday with shows from Alberta Ferretti, Dhruv Kapoor and Diesel. But it was the Gucci event that (predictably) drew the biggest A-list crowd, with an impressive turnout for Georgian designer Demna Gvasalia’s first presentation for the Italian fashion house.

Before Gucci, Gvasalia was responsible for revitalising Balenciaga. While in this post he won numerous accolades, including International Ready-To-Wear Designer of the Year at The Fashion Awards 2016 and the CFDA’s International Award (for his work at both Balenciaga and Vetements) in 2017.
Demna’s work at Balenciaga bled virality, with crumpled crisp bag accessories and whole body stockings (particularly popular with Kim Kardashian), as well as dramatic evening gowns, often modelled by friend of the brand Nicole Kidman. However, it was oftentimes criticised for being “gimmicky”.

But Demna and Gucci are two names destined to pull a crowd, if Milan Fashion Week wasn’t already celebrity-heavy enough. And it was quite a diverse portfolio of A-listers, in terms of vibe. The FROW included Gwyneth Paltrow, Serena Williams, Edward Norton, Anna Wintour, Lila Moss, David Jonsson, Elliot Page and Alia Shawkat. We can only imagine the talking points.
The cool girl clubs of old Balenciaga shows re-emerged once more, with Alex Consani rubbing shoulders with fellow model Amelia Gray and Vogue beauty editor Tish Weinstock posing up a storm with Devon Lee Carlson and Princess Olympia of Greece.

Guests were treated to a short film that was created in support of the latest collection, starring Demi Moore, Kendall Jenner, Keke Palmer, Ed Harris and several of the show’s attendees. The film has been described as crossover of The Substance and The White Lotus, which feels suitably Demna x Gucci.
Elsewhere at Milan Fashion Week, Saweetie was spotted on the FROW at Dhruv Kapoor, and Diesel was praised for its odd use of staging, with models standing inside transparent eggs.
