Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden could be set to leave the BBC show, according to the latest odds
Amy Dowden might be preparing to step away from Strictly Come Dancing, if the latest betting odds are anything to go by.
The Welsh professional dancer made her debut on the sparkly BBC One programme back in 2017, quickly establishing herself as a viewer favourite. Throughout her tenure, she’s been partnered with celebrities including James Bye, JB Gill and Tom Fletcher.
For the 2025 series, Amy was matched with TV personality and The Apprentice champion Thomas Skinner. Unfortunately, the duo became the first pair to exit the competition.
Amy’s recent years have been particularly challenging beyond the dance floor. She received a breast cancer diagnosis in May 2023, forcing her to miss the 2023 series whilst undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
In February of the previous year, Amy shared the positive news that doctors had found “no evidence of the disease” in her system, clearing the path for her Strictly return, reports Wales Online.
She made her comeback last year, dancing alongside JLS star JB Gill. Sadly, she was hospitalised in October and subsequently withdrew from the contest in November.
However, speculation is now mounting that Amy might take time away from the programme, with reports suggesting a major reality TV opportunity could be on the horizon for the cherished performer.
Betway’s current odds indicate Amy could step back from Strictly, offering 5/1 chances of her departing the established show. Should she choose to leave, television opportunities are unlikely to be in short supply.
The betting firms have also set odds of 5/1 for Amy to venture into the Australian wilderness for a place on the forthcoming series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
Additionally, the prospect of Amy launching her own podcast carries odds of 10/1. Amy would be treading a well-worn path taken by numerous Strictly stars who have previously braved the ITV jungle experience.
Former professional dancer Oti Mabuse took on the challenge in 2024, whilst Kate Garraway – who graced the Strictly dance floor in 2007 – also participated in I’m a Celeb back in 2019.
These fresh career predictions emerge following Amy becoming the inaugural professional to face elimination from Strictly 2025. Reflecting on his journey, Amy’s celebrity partner Thomas expressed: “I’ve loved it.
“I’ve never danced before and my stay was short, but Amy’s amazing. It’s been great fun and I’ve enjoyed it. I can’t really dance that well but I’ve had fun!”.
Amy subsequently delivered a heartfelt farewell, battling back emotions as she declared: “I’ve got to know the real Tom and he is adorable. He’s looked after me. We’ve laughed so much.”
She continued: “We’ve worked so hard and a glitterball would have been amazing, but what I’ve learnt in the last few years is happiness, health and being alive is more important than anything. I’ve made a new friend for life and I wouldn’t change a thing.”
