A second-hand shopper received a nasty surprise when the ‘pre-loved’ pair of jeans they had ordered from a second-hand shopping platform arrived with the previous owner’s underwear inside.
The toe-curling revelation was made on the third episode of the Daily Mail’s Spent podcast, in association with Nationwide, by host Matt Edmonson.
As father-of-two Matt, 39, chatted with his fourth guest of the series, Eastenders star Maisie Smith, 24, he revealed a friend of his had made the horrifying discovery when they opened up a package they had ordered from the thrifting platform.
Matt and Essex-born Maisie had been discussing the actress and Strictly star’s love of Depop, a second hand platform, on which she sells her unwanted clothes to punters and packages them up in twee pink bags with stickers.
But Matt’s friend hadn’t had such a satisfying experience with second-hand buying.

He told Maisie: ‘A friend of mine recently bought some jeans – I think it was from Vinted or somewhere like that – and they arrived with underwear in them. Which suggests that they were never washed.’
In response, Maisie audibly shuddered, before giggling: ‘You never want that.’
Matt continued: ‘That suggests that they’ve [the seller] gone ‘whoomph’, straight into the bag.’
Elsewhere in the episode, Maisie, who is currently starring in The Talented Mr Ripley on the West End, revealed her spending habits – both day-to-day and on special occasions.
She discussed growing up on television, playing the young Tiffany Butcher, daughter of Bianca and Ricky, on beloved soap Eastenders – and how she chose to spend her money as a child star when she first found fame.
‘I had a bit of money for a kid,’ she said. ‘I splashed out on a bedroom that was just head to toe in Cath Kidston.’
Maisie joked the designer ‘could have taken pictures’ of her childhood bedroom for promotional purposes thanks to her love of the prints, which featured everywhere.
‘It was like someone spat flowers all over my room,’ she joked, adding that it was a ‘bad call’.
Looking back, Maisie said her obsession with the floral prints were reflective of a young girl who came into money at 12 years old and thought: ‘I could just get anything.’
However, the Eastenders alum added her impulsive spending streak has reared its head again since she has reached adulthood and compelled her to buy a specific range of tracksuit bottoms from Urban Outfitters in ‘every single colour’ – before she decided she didn’t actually like them much.
Maisie’s appearance on Spent follows previous guests Angellica Bell and comedians, Marcus Brigstocke Jake Lambert.

Reflecting on how she started her career in TV, Angellica explained she’d never imagined becoming a presenter while growing up, because she didn’t believe she was ‘anything special to look at’.
During her younger years, she had a paper round and even worked in McDonalds before landing her first TV job as a roving reporter for the Big Breakfast on Channel 4 in the late 1990s.
Her big break came when she started working for CBBC in 2000, hosting in between shows before eventually landing main presenting stints on shows including Xchange, 50/50 and That’s Genius!
But despite her success, she confessed that her insecurities didn’t disappear overnight as she detailed her desires to appear ‘smaller’ onscreen.

Speaking to host Matt Edmondson, Angellica recalled: ‘For me, I wouldn’t say necessarily, being on CBBC was something that I thought could happen to me.
‘Maybe because I didn’t know how to get there. I’d grown up watching it and just thinking that looks so cool, but I never envisioned myself in the spot.
‘Growing up, I was like a little fat chubby child with national health glasses, so I wasn’t anything special to look at. So I just thought, yeah, we’ll see what happens.’
She went on to explain how she ended up splashing the cash on an abs machine, before realising it was ineffective and couldn’t replace traditional exercise and diet.
Marcus Brigstocke previously revealed to Matt Edmonson he spent ‘silly money’ buying back his own motorhome after it was stolen from his driveway.
The comedian, 52, explained that his beloved motorhome, which he used for touring, had been stolen in broad daylight from outside his house in South London.
Thinking the vehicle lost forever, the stand-up received an insurance payout. But two years later, Norfolk Police called with surprising news – they’d found it.
But to get it back, he had to buy it at auction from the insurance company, leading to what Brigstocke calls a ‘wildly stupid’ purchase that he now deeply regrets.
