Bosses have set a series premiere date of 2026 and work is already underway on storylines as bosses say ‘Baywatch defined an entire era of beach life and elevated lifeguards to an iconic status’
Baywatch is officially making a comeback.
The classic 90s beach lifeguard series will be coming back to our screens after American telly bosses decided to go for another run.
Chiefs think there is now a gap in the market for a new series of the sexy swimsuits show and bosses at the Fox network believe fans would jump back on their surfboards to watch a new gang who would follow in the footsteps of Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff.
Sources say bosses have set a series premiere date of 2026 and work is already underway on storylines. Michael Thorn, the president of the channel: “In its first run, Baywatch defined an entire era of beach life and elevated lifeguards to an iconic status.
“Now, with our partners at Fremantle, this television juggernaut is set for a modern-day comeback.”
The upcoming reboot will be executive produced by original series’ creators Michael Berk, Greg Bonann and Doug Schwartz, as well as Dante Di Loreto but as yet, no casting announcements have been made.
In 2017, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson starred alongside Hollywood icons including Zac Efron, Priyanka Chopra, Alexandra Daddario, Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff in a Baywatch movie.
And David – star of the original TV series – revealed that he relished providing advice to the likes of Dwayne and Zac.
He said in 2017: “When I was on the set, they were incredibly nice, and incredibly respectful, and welcoming, and wanted to know why Baywatch was so successful.
“They were kind of in awe of me, and I was in awe of them, because they’re all working in a big way. I’ve had my shot, and I’m kind of circling around doing this and doing that.
“This action is going to far be superior to [the original TV series] Baywatch because they’ve got the movies behind them.”
