All staff were forced to leave the building and BBC Radio Scotland Breakfast was taken off air and breakfast television bulletins were suspended while staff were evacuated

BBC breakfast programmes were abruptly taken off air this morning after a fire broke out at its headquarters in Glasgow. BBC Radio Scotland Breakfast was taken off air and breakfast television bulletins were put on hold as staff were ushered out of the building.

The fire is thought to have originated in a plant room on the fifth floor of the Pacific Quay building, at roof level. The fire alarm was triggered around 6:30am on Monday, December 1, prompting all staff members to vacate the building.

The Breakfast show then switched to pre-recorded music and is currently broadcasting Radio 5 Live, reports the Daily Record.

Police Scotland have been approached for comments. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were attending an incident at the building.

A BBC Scotland spokesperson said: “We’re grateful to the emergency services for their rapid deployment on site. We’re working hard to ensure the safety of all of our colleagues and will restore our regular services on-air as soon as we can.”
