Beau Greaves has been backed for a shock Premier League place by a former world champion as the 21-year-old sensation looks to cause ‘much trouble’ on the big stage

Beau Greaves has been backed to land a shock Premier League spot by former world champion Raymond van Barneveld.

Greaves, 21, is a darting sensation looking to put the women’s game firmly on the map building up to the World Championship. Greaves, who is a three-time WFD world champion and two-time Women’s World Matchplay winner, recently beat Luke Littler in the semi-final of the World Youth Championship.

‘Beau ‘n’ Arrow’ has taken the women’s game by storm and will be looking to make waves on the Pro Tour in her third appearance at the Grand Slam of Darts next week.

Greaves will take on Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson and Niko Springer in an incredibly exciting group in Wolverhampton.

Speaking about Greaves’ rise, Van Barneveld said: “First of all, I’m so proud of her, of what she is doing. All these tournaments where she was unbeaten in the Women’s Series.

“Wow. I played her recently, and you can say, ‘yeah, you have to play against a woman’. Yes. So what? I don’t look at it like that. For me, it’s just a game, and she beat me 6-4.

“She beat Luke Littler in the semis of the World Youth Championship. That says it all. In the last leg, an 11-dart finish. How great is that? And trust me, she’s going to cause really much trouble next year, because I know men, and they don’t like to play a woman.

“To me, that doesn’t matter. No one can say to me, ‘oh, Ray, do you feel ashamed because you lost to a woman?’ Well, try your luck, pal. Try to beat her then’.

“Show me, you know? She beat one guy, Dennie Olde Kalter, 6-0 with a 107 average just before playing me.”

Greaves is set to take to the Grand Slam stage next week before returning to Alexandra Palace for the World Championship after previously opting not to attend the event to play in the women’s tournament.

While she is yet to make her major breakthrough on the TV stage, Greaves could harness the acclaim that Fallon Sherrock received won she broke the glass ceiling in the 2020 competition.

If ‘Beau ‘n’ Arrow’ can do that, and get a run deeper into the tournament together, Van Barneveld has backed her to merit a Premier League place, considering the entertainment factor of the competition.

Van Barneveld added: “So yeah, you can say, a woman, but she’s quality. She does her country proud, and her family and herself proud. Hopefully, if she does well in the World Championship, I can guarantee you she’ll get a Premier League ticket.”
