The horror find was made in Castellon, east Spain, with some reports suggesting the man was placed in the bin alive before being ‘crushed alive’ by accident when the bins were emptied

Binmen have discovered the body of a Spanish mayor’s ex-husband when they emptied wheelie bins. Cops have launched an investigation with some local reports suggesting the victim was alive when placed in the bins, but crushed to death by accident when the bins were emptied.

The horror discovery was made in the early hours of Sunday in the east coast city of Castellon, Spain. Today it was confirmed the deceased was the ex-husband of Maria Tormo, the mayor of Almassora.

The 45-year-old, named as businessman Vincente Dominguez, has been described as someone who was well-known to police. One respected daily newspaper suggested the death could have been a “settling of scores” relating to a drug dispute, although officials haven’t backed this claim.

Police say they are continuing to investigate and the cause of death has not yet been officially revealed prior to the full post-mortem.

But Spanish TV station Telecinco claimed this morning investigators were working on the theory the victim was beaten and left alive but unconscious in the wheelie bin and death occurred after he was accidentally crushed by the refuge lorry’s haulage system.

The alarm was sounded around 5am on Sunday morning. Rubbish is typically collected in Spain late at night. The wheelie bin the body was in was near Castellon’s bullring.

The refuge truck that picked it up has been examined by police forensic experts. Detectives are also looking at CCTV in the area and questioning witnesses to try to establish who abandoned the dead man when he was still apparently alive but critically injured.

Last October, a 24-year-old woman tragically lost her life after accidentally falling unconscious in a rubbish bin while returning home from a night out in Spain.

The student, Agostina Rubini, vanished following an evening of revelry with mates in Palma, Majorca.

Detectives discovered skeletal remains at a waste disposal plant where her mobile was last active in the wee hours of October 3.

They subsequently theorised that the Argentinian national had stumbled into a bin while attempting to retrieve something, before passing out.

In February, after an exhaustive search of a waste treatment facility in Majorca and DNA testing of over a thousand skeletal remains, investigators confirmed the heart-breaking manner of her demise.
