Maxwell Haworth, 5, was playing with his best friend on the rocks at a popular beach in California when he slipped and dislodged a boulder that struck him and claimed his life
A 5 year old boy has tragically died in a horrific accident while playing at a popular California beach.
Little Maxwell Haworth had been scrambling on rocks at Rincon Beach in Ventura when he slipped, causing a boulder to become loose and fatally crush him. His mum and dad had been keeping a close eye nearby as their only child played with his best friend.
When the two youngsters ventured into the rocky area on August 31, Maxwell lost his balance which triggered the boulder to tumble down. He sustained devastating injuries in front of his parents and later died from his wounds.
“His father picked him up and went up to the parking lot with him in his arms to get some help,” close family member Daniel Kessler told The Los Angeles Times. “They did everything they could.”
Kessler added: “He was always a joyful, energetic five-year-old and always having fun, loved everybody. He had just actually started kindergarten a couple of weeks ago”, reports the Mirror.
The family has since set up a fundraiser in his memory and to help the family during this difficult period. Bryan Holloway, who organised the fundraiser, said: “Some of their fondest family memories were made camping and exploring the Californian beaches, deserts, and mountains.”
He continued: “Max was their biggest joy in life and a blessing they couldn’t have wanted more. Max lived and experienced more in his short five years of life then most children get in their lifetime. He got to live a life of adventure and exploring while building some of the fondest memories with his mom, dad, friends, and family.
“Max will be immensely missed by all who knew him. He was an energetic spirit with a huge heart that brought so much joy to not only his parents lives, but some of his closest friends and family’s lives. Please feel free to show your love and help this family during this time of need.”
Since Maxwell’s tragic passing, the fundraiser has collected approximately $66,424 (£48,996) towards a $80,000 (£59,010) goal. Bryan stated that funds from the appeal would be used to cover funeral expenses, grief counselling as well as other “burdens” following Maxwell’s death.
