A group of British tourists were involved in a violent street brawl with local shopkeepers in a popular European holiday hotspot, with umbrellas and makeshift shields used as weapons

A minor disagreement between British holidaymakers and local shop owners in a Turkish resort swiftly escalated into a shocking street brawl. The intense fight, which erupted outside a boutique on Ataturk Street, Alanya, a popular spot in the Turkish Riviera, on September 1, resulted in several injuries and led to the temporary closure of the business.

Local reports suggest that a conversation between the British tourists and the shopkeeper rapidly turned violent. Six Brits reportedly encircled the shopkeeper, headbutting him before launching into a brutal assault of punches and kicks.

CCTV footage from the scene depicts the shopkeeper sitting on the steps as the tourists initially surround him, their voices escalating.

In mere seconds, the shopkeeper is seen being punched and kicked to the ground, with nearby traders rushing to his aid. The altercation soon spirals into a full-blown street brawl.

To exacerbate matters, the British tourists began to gather sticks and stones from the roadside, hurling them at the locals, reports the Express.

The footage then shows the traders defending themselves with umbrellas and makeshift shields. Eventually, the outnumbered Brits retreated, seeking refuge in a nearby hotel.

Both parties reportedly sustained injuries from the brawl, prompting police units to be dispatched to the scene. Authorities have initiated a criminal investigation into the incident, and the shop was sealed off for three days to facilitate ongoing inquiries.

Although the CCTV footage has been shared widely online, there remains no current explanation for the enormous street brawl.

The incident occurred in Antalya’s Alanya district – an extremely popular tourist destination which regularly draws millions of visitors, especially from the UK and other European nations.

This isn’t the sole violent episode involving British holidaymakers overseas this year. Back in May, a brutal fight erupted between British tourists on Playa del Duque beach in Costa Adeje, Tenerife.

One individual wielded a racket before fellow beachgoers eventually intervened to separate the combatants. The viral clip generated numerous entertained reactions, including: “Nice to go on vacation. The sea, the sand, the umbrellas – the fights! ! ! !”.

Subsequently, in June, a street altercation between two holidaymakers, once again in Tenerife, provoked fury amongst local inhabitants.

The confrontation was filmed and later posted on Instagram, depicting two young males – one wearing a white shirt and the other shirtless – facing off against each other, whilst being encouraged by a gathering of British tourists.
