More than half of Brits say home is where the heart is, with a Sunday roast being voted the favourite ‘happy place’ of those surveyed

Brits have shared their ultimate happy place with sitting down for a Sunday roast topping a new poll. A person’s “happy place” can be anywhere from watching the sunrise on a beautiful beach (28%) to taking your first sip of tea in the morning (21%). Seeing your team score at a football match (17%) also made people’s top 20 happy moments, the survey by Chilean wine brand 35 South.

More than one in 10 (14%) say nothing beats browsing the aisles of a bookshop. Curling up on the sofa with a takeaway (29%) and strolling through a meadow in Spring (16%) also made the list of the nation’s ultimate “happy places”.

More than half (53%) insist home is where the heart is and 18% of the respondents polled said they feel that sense of home when in nature.

Sarah Barrett, 33, from Cornwall, says: “That feeling of home can strike anywhere for me, but it’s often down at the nearby beach, Holywell Beach, in Cornwall.

“It’s postcard perfect most of the time, and it can make me feel entirely at home first thing in the morning walking the dog, when I barely see another person.

“Or when the sun is setting, I’ve made a picnic dinner for my friends and I’m having a sundowner to mark the end of a busy week.

“It’s the same beach, and two different moments, but they both make me take a second to draw breath and appreciate where I am and who I’m with.”

James Murch, of 35 South wine, added: “On a beach at sunrise, or over their morning cuppa. Home and happiness really is wherever you feel it.”
