Manchester United’s skipper Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho were left gobsmacked by Marcus Rashford’s stunning double for Barcelona.

The United loanee was instrumental in Hansi Flick’s team kicking off their Champions League campaign with a win, thanks to his second-half brace against Newcastle United.

Newcastle’s spirits were dashed after an outstanding solo performance from the England star saw him score his first goals for the La Liga side. The match hung in the balance until Rashford headed past Nick Pope, before scoring an early contender for goal of the season from outside the area.

After sidestepping Sandro Tonali, the 27-year-old let fly with a curling shot into the top corner, leaving his England teammate helpless in goal at St James’ Park.

Fernandes and Sancho were both taken aback by Rashford’s brilliance and took to social media to express their astonishment.

Aston Villa’s winger shared the first goal on his story, tagging Rashford and adding a fire and salute emoji, followed by two more emojis after his spectacular second goal, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Fernandes did the same, sharing the long-range effort on social media. The Portuguese international posted two mind-blown emojis with a shocked face sandwiched in between.

On commentary, former Scotland striker Ally McCoist was left astounded by the quality of the United loanee’s performance. He exclaimed: “Deary, deary me. That’s absolutely majestic.

“It’s a thing of beauty. That man [Thomas Tuchel] should be applauded with the greatest respect, ah, I thought he was attempting to hit earlier… wow.

“It’s just fabulous football from Rashford. It dips in the last minute I think, in off the underside of the bar – a fantastic goal.”

The Spanish champions found themselves on edge towards the end as Anthony Gordon narrowed the gap during injury time, while Rashford was denied his hat-trick in the final moments after being substituted for Dani Olmo.
