Marvin Dickson, 40, was found dead at the north London home of his killer, Dante Forrest, on September 20 last year – the discovery came to light after neighbours reported a ‘dreadful smell’

A man has been jailed for life after battering another to death before leaving his body in a bath for 10 days. Marvin Dickson, 40, was found dead at the north London home of his killer, Dante Forrest, on September 20 last year.

Police discovered his body curled in a bathtub after a neighbour of the defendant alerted the force to a “dreadful smell” coming from his property in Moselle Avenue, Wood Green.. Forrest, 36, was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 22 years at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, the Metropolitan Police said.

The victim’s family, sat in the public gallery, burst into tears as the foreman returned the jury’s verdict.

Mr Dickson was last seen on CCTV footage in the early hours of September 10 walking with the defendant and carrying a takeaway pizza box, the court previously heard. When police arrived at Forrest’s home 10 days later, they found the property boarded up, padlocked, and in complete darkness.

A pathological examination showed he died as a result of “substantial” blunt force trauma to the left side of his head. A “blood-stained” pizza box was found in Forrest’s flat suggesting Mr Dickson died soon after the last sighting.

Mr Dickson’s family said in a statement that he “will forever be loved, missed and remembered”.

They added: “On behalf of our family, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in this case.

“While we are grateful that justice has been delivered, and that the person responsible for Marvin’s death has been held accountable, no verdict can ever bring him back or ease the sadness we carry every day.”

Detective Inspector Mark Johnson, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Unit, who led the investigation, said: “Today’s sentence will hopefully bring a small amount of closure to Marvin’s family.

“My thoughts remain with his loved ones as justice is finally served, they have shown immense strength throughout this investigation.”
