Olympic diver Tom Daley was one of the first contestants to be killed off on the current series of Celebrity Traitors.

Tom Daley has disclosed that he urged Celebrity Traitors chiefs to consider a dramatic format shake-up after his elimination from the show.

The Olympic diving star featured on the current BBC series but became one of the programme’s earliest casualties. He was bumped off after catching the eye of Traitors Alan Carr, Jonathan Ross and Cat Burns, who chose to ‘murder’ him as they reckoned he might prove difficult to outsmart during the competition.

Tom has now revealed to The Guardian that he pitched the idea of bringing contestants back from the dead, reports Wales Online.

“I think what they should have considered is a resurrection,” he said. “Bringing someone back from the dead after, like, the first four murders.”

When questioned about whether he floated his suggestion to the production team, he confirmed: “Yes. They said no.”

During the programme, presenter Claudia Winkleman chooses the Traitors by circling the roundtable whilst contestants wear blindfolds, tapping selected individuals on the shoulder.

Tom confessed he had hoped to become a Traitor instead of a Faithful and felt “annoyed” when this didn’t happen.

“Around that first roundtable, you’re either waiting to be touched or not wanting to be touched,” he said. “It’s really intense. When I wasn’t a Traitor, I was annoyed.

“You can think, ‘Just play the game and have fun and see where we get.’ But as an athlete, I like to be in control.”

Tom, 31, recently revealed that his eldest son broke down in tears when he was killed off on the show. The sports icon shares two sons with his husband Dustin Lance Black – Robbie, born in 2018, and Phoenix, who arrived in 2023.

Speaking on The One Show last week, he shared: “I’ve been watching it with my husband and my oldest son.

“And what was really sad was when, like, I got, you know, murdered, he was like, he started crying ‘Oh, my papa.’ And I was like, ‘Robbie, I’m here, you’re fine.’ And then he was like, ‘OK, because I wanted you to win.’ And he’s like, ‘I hate the Traitors.'”

Celebrity Traitors airs on BBC One.
