Charlotte Dawson and fiancé Matt Sarsfield have put their romance on pause, as she says juggling life with three kids has left little time to focus on their relationship
Life for Charlotte Dawson has never been more hectic – and with three little ones under five, it’s easy to understand why. She also had to weather a turbulent period in her personal life last year when her fiancé, ex-rugby league star Matt Sarsfield, confessed to sending explicit messages to another woman whilst Charlotte was expecting their third child.
Despite the heartbreak and doubt about their future at the time, Charlotte chose to stick by her partner and today she describes their bond as “strong”. However, as she reveals exclusively to OK!, their world revolves entirely around family at the moment, meaning any romantic gestures have been put firmly on the back burner.
“Date nights – what are they?” laughs Charlotte, 32, with her characteristic, no-nonsense wit. She and Matt, who celebrates his 34th birthday this week, are mum and dad to Noah, four, Jude, two, and six-month-old Gigi, and she acknowledges they find it tough to carve out couple time away from the nappies, midnight feeds and household chaos.
“We’ve had no date nights recently,” she admits. “We do need to prioritise us a bit more because we just haven’t for a while. It’s all about the kids right now. But when Noah starts school and we’ve got a proper routine, that’s when I think our spark will start sparking again.”, reports the Mirror.
Whilst last summer’s infidelity drama proved to be a difficult period for Charlotte, she maintains that she and Matt have completely put the episode behind them. “We’re solid, you know?” she explains.
“We’ve worked through everything and now it’s all about the kids and family life.”
When it comes to disciplining their children, Charlotte believes there’s no contest about who plays the roles of good cop and bad cop. “Oh, Matthew is the strict one – 100%,” she declares.
“I try, but they just laugh in my face. When Matthew says it’s wrong, it’s wrong. When I say it, it’s like, ‘Yeah, OK Mum.’ Jude listens to me a bit more, but Noah? Nah, he just thinks I’m a joke.”
This dynamic seems to work well for the couple, even though Charlotte concedes she’s a bit lenient. “I do try,” she insists.
“But honestly, I’m all about cuddles and chaos – that’s me.”
With a giggle, she admits that chaos aptly describes her current situation. As we speak, Noah is preparing for his first day of school, Jude is advancing to a higher class at nursery, and Gigi – who, as Charlotte proudly points out, was born on International Women’s Day – has just begun weaning.
“It’s all happening! I’ve got two big milestones at once and then Gigi is starting on solids, so I literally can’t catch a break,” she exclaims. “I keep telling myself not to blink because this stage will be gone soon, but right now, it’s full-on.”
The prospect of sending her eldest child off to school is taking an emotional toll on her, she confesses. “Noah was my lockdown baby, my firstborn – he’s always been with me,” she shares.
“So, the thought of him going off in his little uniform, I’m hormonal just thinking about it. Honestly, I’m in bits.”
For Charlotte, the biggest hurdle hasn’t been uniforms or school shoes – it’s been establishing some sort of routine. “Noah’s never really had a proper routine,” she confesses.
“I live in Barbie world! When he was a baby, I just wanted him with me all the time. But now school is starting, we have to nail this bedtime thing. That’s what I’m most worried about.”
