An East London staple since 1876, The Whitechapel Mission offers a day-centre providing free breakfasts, showers, clothing, medical and housing advice, computer access and more. The charity accept donations (clothes, food, toiletries), as well as group volunteering (kitchen shifts, clothing sorting, advice support) rather than individual volunteers. It’s open every day of the year, but if you’re looking to volunteer this Christmas, get in touch pronto as its ‘Christmas programme for volunteering’ usually opens in early September, and is popular enough that slots fill up sharpish.
