Coronation Street is lining up huge scenes this Christmas and into the New Year with the ITV soap’s crossover

Coronation Street is set for huge scenes this Christmas with secrets exposed and a huge joyful wedding.

And the drama doesn’t stop there as going into the New Year, soap fans can look forward to the special soap crossover episode, where the worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale come together for the first time in Corriedale.

Filming has begun on the special one-off celebration of the nation’s two most watched soap operas, which will see the residents of Weatherfield join forces with their Yorkshire neighbours in an action packed hour of drama.

Teasing the upcoming festive scenes and New Year crossover, Corrie boss Kate Brooks said at a press event on Friday: “So there’s a lot, there’s loads going on Christmas Day.

“Christmas Day itself is a real family affair and kind of the Driscolls are very much at the heart of Christmas Day. It’s a proper pub Christmas Day.

“It’s proper, you know, very community based, very kind of lively. Loads going on, you know, secrets are exposed and whatnot. So it’s a real kind of it’s a real feel good episode with a lot of kind of drama as well thrown into the mix.

“But the stories we’ve kind of got going in the build of that. We’ve got Ronnie and Debbie who are very keen to kind of crack on the wedding and lots of preparations for that. Lots of fun and games in terms of that”, adding of the venue: “It’s not at the Chariot Square!”

Revealing other festive storylines, Kate continued: “So we’ve obviously got that story. But the other stories which are really kind of kicking off around about the time, we’ve got Carla, Lisa, Becky. That really takes, you know, that really kind of goes up a gear around about Christmas time.

“And there’s a few, there’s a few really big twists that will keep people hooked and keep people watching as they watch this all unfold. So that’s another big story which will kind of feature heavily around about the Christmas period.

“Again, Todd, Theo, you know, Christmas is often kind of a time where there’s a lot of spikes and calls to the Samaritans and whatnot. And we wanted to really kind of show Todd and Theo’s journey.

“You know, in the lead and the build to Christmas, there’s, you know, we’ve got a really special episode which is just focused primarily on their relationship, which I’ve just touched on before. But it’s told in a completely different, unique, never been done before way, which will really pack a punch on many levels.

“So we’ve got that story really kind of shaping up and kind of Todd becoming more embroiled in that. And yeah, they’re the kind of the big ones, obviously, the Websters, Abi and, you know, Abi and Carl and James, that’s all still happening. And you’ve got Tyrone and Fiz.

“Abi hasn’t got a Scooby, that’s happened. You know, similarly, Tyrone doesn’t know that Carl’s behind the car. Like there’s lots of things which are kind of bubbling and kind of ready to kick off.”

Talking about Corriedale and the crossover, Kate teased: “Filming’s going well. Filming’s going brilliantly. You know, we’ve got a brilliant director, you know, the script’s brilliant.

“You know, the actors are loving it because it’s so different and unique from what they’ve ever done before. Yeah, I’ve been on set a few times, the mood and the camaraderie is really, you know, it’s infectious. You know, people are loving the kind of work that people have not worked with before.

“And there’s just, it’s just, it’s dead exciting. Like, I just can’t help but imagine what my mum’s going to be like watching this episode. And she’ll be so beside herself because as a soap fan, the idea of sitting down and watching your two favourite shows with all your favourite characters interact in this massive, unmissable piece of telly.

“Like, it’s just, like, it’s just amazing. Like, even if I didn’t work in soap, I’d be, like, so excited for this because it’s just a soap fan’s dream. And I think what we’ve done really well is kind of make sure that the episode encapsulates what makes both shows unique.

“But also that universal appeal that, you know, soap is brilliant telly and it’s soap-tastic. So I think that those combinations are going to be a real treat for fans.”

Adding one last teaser, Kate encouraged fans to look out for Easter eggs scattered in the show and posters ahead of the crossover.

Coronation Street continues on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITV X.
