Coronation Street’s Michelle Connor hasn’t been seen since 2019 but the soap has recently appeared to share a major update on the beloved character

Coronation Street fans are heartbroken after a sad Michelle Connor update on the soap.

Michelle (Kym Marsh) made her debut on the cobbles back in 2006 and for 13 years, she was a regular on the long-running show. What’s more, it’s fair to say Michelle was involved in a slew of big storylines during her stint.

From the death of her brothers to a harrowing baby swap plot, Michelle’s time in Weatherfield was not short of drama. She also had an ionic friendship with sister-in-law Carla Connor (Alison King) – who is still on the cobbles – that was a hit with fans.

But in 2019, Kym revealed she was leaving the soap after 13 years leaving fans gutted. Her final episode aired in December that year.

Since her exit, Michelle has been mentioned numerous times. Her son Ryan (Ryan Prescott) was involved in a horrific acid attack in 2023 and Ryan left the cobbles to visit Michelle in Ireland.

And this week, Carla took a break from the cobbles to also go and visit Michelle. According to Carla’s fiancé Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) Carla was heading over there with Ryan because of “family stuff”.

However, fans have interpreted this as a sign that something could be wrong with Michelle. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, viewers have suspected a shock cancer twist.

“Watch Carla come back and reveal Michelle is unwell or something,” mused one person. Another added: “Cancer probably!” A third chimed in: “I did think maybe something’s happened with her?”

Despite leaving the soap over five years ago, Kym has hinted at returning plenty of times. This year, she told Liverpool Echo: “Never say never. I’d like to think I would go back if it suited us both at the time.”

Meanwhile speaking in August, Kym said to The Mirror: “It was left open, very much so and if the chance and opportunity was to arrive then I could always return if that was what was wanted.

“So yeah, there is always that option for her to go back, unless they kill her off! But there is that opportunity and I mean, I just love that show. “I will always love Coronation Street, it’s such a major part of my life.”

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
