Coronation Street is lining up explosive scenes this December on the cobbles

Coronation Street spoilers have teased that Eva Price, played by Catherine Tyldesley, could find herself in danger this Christmas.

Eva and her daughter Susie returned to the cobbles last month with her new family – partner Ben Driscoll, his mother Maggie and his two sons Ollie and Will.

Eva and Maggie, played by Pauline McLynn, don’t exactly see eye-to-eye especially thanks to Maggie using her money to buy the Rovers Return Inn.

In spoilers for upcoming December episodes, it is revealed that a special flashback episode which focuses on Maggie’s birthday exposes her true colours.

Soap watchers will see tensions flaring in the Rovers and learn there’s more to this family dynamic than meets the eye as fans get a glimpse of Maggie’s earlier life and how the matriarchal mother-in-law from hell came to be.

Coronation Street has teased: “Eva’s made her dislike of Maggie quite clear, and with the feelings seemingly mutual, the audience will be left wondering if Eva needs to watch her back. What is Maggie really capable of?”

It comes as Maggie actress Pauline, 63, chatted to us exclusively about the drama in store for the Driscoll household. Speaking about Maggie’s backstory and the mystery surrounding her husband, Pauline revealed: “Yes, well, where is the husband? We will find out around Christmas. I will say that much.

“Yeah, we won’t be left hanging, wondering, you know, what the past is there. But yeah, there are two sons. But, you know, we as actors, we’re told the kind of like arc of a story of what’s happened.

“And I did ask when I was, you know, at a producer’s meeting, I said, ‘I want to meet the other son’. And they said, ‘we’re thinking about it’…

“So sometimes they make you wait, you know, and it might be just before you get the script saying, so-and-so walks through the door. His name is Finlay, by the way.”

Pauline shared: “I don’t know if he, I think he’s younger than Aaron’s character, Ben. So yeah, so I like to torture Aaron, even though I know nothing about the character of Finlay, and just say, ‘I’d say he’s the favourite son though, isn’t he?’

“For instance, it’s all there for the torture. And I think, you know, that’s very much in keeping with any family anyway, you know, even if it never makes it onto the screen. They [the Driscoll family] have great fights.

“And poor old Ben, the son, Maggie’s son in it, he is stuck between two very, like he’s devoted to both women, but he’s stuck between a rock and a hard place.”

Coronation Street continues on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV and ITV X.
