Coronation Street is set for more explosive scenes involving Carla Connor, Lisa Swain and Becky next week

Coronation Street spoilers have teased a new betrayal next week between Lisa Swain and estranged wife Becky.

Soap watchers will recall that Lisa is currently in a relationship with Carla Connor. However, only recently, Lisa’s life was turned upside down when her supposedly dead wife Becky came out of hiding after four years.

As expected, Becky’s sudden ‘return from the dead’ has been challenging for Carla, Lisa and the latter’s daughter Betsy, who also thought her mum Becky was dead.

In scenes this week, dodgy Costello, who had been investigating Becky for corruption prior to her death and has been left spooked over Becky’s return as it could be bad news for both of them, wields his power over Betsy.

Kit Green tells Lisa that Betsy has been arrested. Later, an officer interviews Betsy and tells her that according to DI Costello, she damaged a police car, resisted arrest and then tried to attack him. Betsy refuses to comment.

Later, Costello meets up with Becky and spells out that she needs to disappear again or it will be worse for Betsy.

In scenes next week, Becky plays the hero as she shows Lisa a flash drive and assures her that Betsy is going to be fine. A fired up Lisa calls at the station and reveals she has CCTV evidence proving it wasn’t Betsy who damaged the police car, where she confronts Costello for Betsy’s wrongful arrest.

During the confrontation, Costello admits Becky wanted to contact Lisa many times but it was too risky. Later, with Betsy released, Becky takes a call from Costello who confirms that he’s done his bit by letting Lisa think it’s his fault she stayed away and now it’s up to her to keep her side of the bargain and he wants her gone within a month…

However, things go from bad to worse when Roy Cropper arrives at the flat to find Lisa and Becky snuggled up on the sofa. How much has he seen and will he tell Carla?

Later in the week, an excited Betsy persuades Becky to take her shopping in preparation for their move to Spain. Finding them at home, surrounded by shopping bags, with Betsy skipping work, Lisa demands to know what’s going on…

It comes as Coronation Street boss, Kate Brooks, has teased what viewers can expect. Speaking at a recent Corrie press day, Kate said: “So, Becky is… she’s a bit of a villain. She’s come back. She knows what she wants. She wants her family back. She wants Betsy. She wants Lisa back.

“She wants to oust Carla from this very happy home life that she’s created. So we are watching this story develop and slowly we’ll start to peel away the layers of Becky and who she is and what she’s actually capable of. At the minute, kind of on screen, we’ve only really scratched the surface, but she is capable of many things.”

Kate added: “Becky’s quite a badass and she’s very capable of many things. The audience will discover that she is, as I say, not kind of quite the innocent and quite the hero that she’s led people to believe. And we will realise that quite soon on screen, actually.

“But it takes a while for the rest of the people of Weatherfield to realise what type of person she is and what she’s capable of. Obviously, Carla’s already got a few suspicions, but we really kind of cement those suspicions quite soon. And Carla has every right to be wary of this woman.”

Coronation Street continues on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITV X.
