President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to bring the death penalty to Washington, D.C.

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order on Thursday to restore the death penalty to Washington, D. C.

The presidential directive instructed Pam Bondi, the U.S. Attorney General, and Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, to fully enforce capital punishment in Washington, D. C.

During the signing ceremony, Trump reiterated his claim that crime figures have dropped following the deployment of the National Guard in the capital.

He asserted there hadn’t been a single murder in four weeks, though this remains an unverified statement. “This is a very safe city now”, Trump declared, reports the Express US.

The President mentioned that female White House staff members have been expressing gratitude to him for enhancing the city’s safety.

“Capital punishment for the capital city”, he quipped.

The attorney general confirmed that the administration is pursuing the death penalty not just in the capital but nationwide.

Last month, Donald Trump announced his intention to restore capital punishment to Washington, D. C., whilst outlining his tough stance on crime in the nation’s capital during a Cabinet meeting.

“If somebody kills somebody in the capital, Washington, D.C., we’re going to be seeking the death penalty,” he explained.

“And that’s a very strong preventative. And everybody that’s heard it agrees with it.”

The death penalty was scrapped in D. C. back in 1981, when the D. C. Council voted to abolish it.

The final execution carried out in the district took place in 1957, according to records from the Death Penalty Information Center.

Trump also put pen to paper on an executive order, confirming that a proposed deal to bring TikTok under U.S. ownership addresses significant security worries.

He stated that China’s Xi has given the green light to the proposed agreement which would see TikTok come under U.S. control.
