Ladbrokes bookies fancy Donald Trump’s chances of being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize tomorrow, after the US President announced a Gaza ceasefire last night (October 8)

Donald Trump’s long-held hopes of winning the Nobel Peace Prize took a big step in the right direction after the Gaza ceasefire deal yesterday. Bookies at Ladbrokes have slashed the Orange Manbaby’s odds from 4/1 on Wednesday to just 3/1.

This makes him the second favourite after Sudan’s Emergency Response Rooms (11/4). It comes after the US President announced last night Israel and Hamas agreed to the first phase of his Gaza peace deal.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Trump reckons he’s deserving of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, and whether punters agree with him or not, he’s certainly among the most popular picks in terms of bets placed.”

This year’s Nobel Peace Prize is set to be named tomorrow (Friday, October 10), with Trump’s administration jostling to try and get their Republican leader on the winner’s list. In June this year Trump moaned about being snubbed for the award, claiming he’d sorted out a host of global arguments.

Writing on Truth Social, he said: “I am very happy to report that I have arranged, along with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a wonderful Treaty between the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Republic of Rwanda, in their War, which was known for violent bloodshed and death.

“I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for this. No, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do. But the people know, and that’s all that matters to me!”

It’s not just Trump’s cronies that want their man to win – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. After the joint strike by the US and Israel on Iran earlier this year, Netanyahu unveiled a letter and passed it to Trump at the White House.

Netanyahu said: “It’s nominating you for the Peace Prize, which is well deserved. You should get it.”

If Trump should sneak the victory tomorrow, he’ll become the fifth US president to win the award. 1906 saw President Theodore Roosevelt win, while in 1920 President Woodrow Wilson got the honours for his efforts in ending the First World War.

President Jimmy Carter was awarded the prize in 2022, with President Barack Obama receiving it in 2009. Vice President Al Gore won in 2007. Should the Gaza ceasefire hold, Trump’s chances will no doubt strengthen.

However at least 10 Palestinians have been killed with 49 also injured in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours, according to the enclave’s Health Ministry.
