Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery has confirmed she is pregnant with her first child with husband Jasper Waller-Bridge, as she debuted her baby bump at the premiere of the final film
Michelle Dockery has confirmed she’s expecting her first child, revealing her joyous news at the Downton Abbey premiere. The actress, 43, looked radiant as she graced the red carpet in Leicester Square, donning a pale blue strapless gown that showed off her growing baby bump.
She complemented her look with a matching mesh cape and touches of silver jewellery, including a sparkling band across her chest. Michelle is set to welcome her first child with husband Jasper Waller-Bridge, brother of Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
He accompanied her on the red carpet at the premiere of Downton Abbey’s final chapter, The Grand Finale, at London’s Odeon Luxe. They seemed to celebrate the news alongside Michelle’s co-stars, who reunited for one last time ahead of the film’s release next week.
The actress, who has portrayed Lady Mary Crawley in Downton Abbey since its debut 15 years ago, tied the knot with Jasper in a beautiful London ceremony in September 2023. For her walk down the aisle, Michelle chose a chic and simple satin gown, while Jasper sported a traditional three-piece navy blue suit.
Among the celebrity guests were Mamma Mia actress Lily James and Michelle’s Downton Abbey co-star Joanne Froggatt. Elizabeth McGovern, Hugh Bonneville, Lesley Manville and Lesley Nicol were also spotted witnessing the happy couple exchange vows, reports the Mirror.
Her wedding comes seven years after the tragic death of her fiance, Irish publicist John Dineen. John sadly passed away in 2015, 15 months after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at the age of 34.
Michelle and John got engaged in 2013 but never had the chance to walk down the aisle. In a rare interview in 2017, two years after John’s death, Michelle shared that she considered herself a widow despite not officially marrying John.
“We were engaged, and married at heart,” Michelle told the Guardian, “so [yes,] I do consider myself a widow.”
Michelle found love again in 2019, meeting her now-husband Jasper through mutual friends at the Rome film festival.
It’s believed that Michelle, who immersed herself in work following John’s death, formed a friendship with her now sister-in-law Phoebe before starting a romance with Jasper.
The couple announced their engagement via a formal announcement in The Times newspaper in January 2022.
The announcement read: “The engagement is announced between Jasper, son of Michael Waller-Bridge of King’s Lynn, Norfolk, and Teresa Waller-Bridge of Battersea, London, and Michelle Dockery, younger daughter of Michael and Lorraine Dockery of Gidea Park, Essex.”
