Jaye Griffiths plays villain Celia Daniels on Emmerdale and the character has caused plenty of drama

Emmerdale’s Celia Daniels star Jaye Griffiths has shared what the secret is behind her youthful looks.

The actress made her debut on the ITV soap earlier this year as farmer Celia – and it didn’t take her long to ruffle plenty of feathers.

As the neighbouring tenant of Moria Dingle (Natalie J Robb) the pair went into business together – this week, the soap aired a shock twist involving Celia.

During Thursday night’s episode (October 2) Celia violently slapped April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) much to the horror of fans – with it being revealed that Celia is the mastermind behind the drug gang.

Celia ominously warned April about the rules and consequences of her going to the police and even threatened her life.

Amid all the on-screen drama, actress Jaye Griffiths appeared on Loose Women on Friday (October 3) to chat about her Dales stint. Talking to the panel, the TV star warned that things are “going to get worse”. The topic then soon turned to the conversation of Jaye’s age.

Host Kaye Adams said: “You’re 61, 62 coming up and you’ve spoken about the parts you get as an older actor, but your age is utterly irrelevant [playing Ceilia].“ Katie Piper then asked: “You’re really into your running?” to which Jaye replied: “Yes I’m fitter now than I was 30!”

Meanwhile, talking about playing villain Celia, Jaye said: “I love her. It’s so great you just let go of any consciousness of empathy and turn it all up! She doesn’t care.”

Jaye is no stranger to appearing on TV screens. As well as Emmerdale, she has appeared in the likes of ITV drama The Bill, playing D.I Sally Johnson and BBC show Bugs as Ros Henderson. She also played Elizabeth Croft in the BBC soap opera Doctors and Elle Gardner in Casualty and its spin-off series Holby City.

Reflecting on Celia as a character, Jaye previously shared: “She’s single-minded, and if you get in her way – get out of her way. This is what I love about her. She doesn’t understand why you people don’t understand. Do what I want or suffer the consequences!

“It’s not complicated – just do what I want you to do and all will be well. When she meets resistance, that’s when the fun begins, because she’ll deal with you differently as she deals with every person in the village differently, according to their character which she is very good at summing up very quickly. She’s not evil, she’s just… different!”

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
