England beat Serbia 2-0 in their penultimate World Cup qualifier on Thursday night as Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze both found the net at Wembley Stadium

England secured victory in their penultimate World Cup qualifier against Serbia as brilliant goals from Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze illuminated Wembley.

The Three Lions had already qualified for the World Cup in North America next summer under German boss Thomas Tuchel. Arsenal winger Saka found the net on the half-hour mark, unleashing a ferocious volley beyond the Serbian keeper to give England the advantage on Thursday evening.

England pressed forward following Saka’s breakthrough in search of extending their lead but couldn’t manage another until the dying moments, when Eberechi Eze grabbed a spectacular second, reports the Mirror.

Here, we assess Thomas Tuchel’s side as they prepare for Sunday’s journey to Albania in their final game, looking to maintain an unbeaten 100% record in qualifying.

England first XI

Jordan Pickford

Still yet to be beaten in this campaign. Another routine evening for England’s number one. 6.

Reece James

Dubbed “Reecie” with fondness by Thomas Tuchel. Little wonder why. Never disappoints his boss. 7.

Ezri Konsa

He genuinely appears the real deal. Towering, authoritative, assured. Merits a starting berth next summer. 7.

John Stones

His calmness, wisdom and game intelligence render him absolutely vital. 6.

Nico O’Reilly

Left-back remains such a troublesome position for England and this represented a solid trial. 7.

Elliott Anderson

The holding midfield role – protecting the defence – is now his for the taking. Energetic and robust. 7.

Declan Rice

Rampaging midfield showing. Little shock he provided a set-piece which resulted in a goal. 6.

Bukayo Saka

Yet another exceptional display from England’s brilliant number seven. Supremely clinical and deadly. 8.

Morgan Rogers

Energetic, impressive and powerful. This was him answering the call to retain his spot. 7.

Marcus Rashford

A night of frustration. His effort was commendable, but nothing seemed to go his way. 6.

Harry Kane

Frequently found himself dropping deep to find the ball due to a lack of service and opportunities. 6.

Substitutes

Eberechi Eze

Scored a great goal late on. 8.

Phil Foden

Played his part in the second goal for England. 7.

Jude Bellingham

Fed Eze for his strike. 7.
