Kevin Doyle was working for RTE Sports and has been captured wheeling around the studio in celebration before gesturing towards the Hungarian captain

Former Wolves and Reading striker Kevin Doyle has reportedly aimed a verbal volley at Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai following the Republic of Ireland’s thrilling victory over Hungary.

The 42-year-old, who was commentating for RTE Sports, was filmed spinning around the studio in jubilation before apparently pointing at what’s believed to be a television screen displaying the match and branding the Hungarian skipper a: “Liverpool c***.”

Troy Parrott completed his hat-trick in stunning style to keep Ireland’s World Cup aspirations breathing. The ex-Tottenham forward found the net in the 96th minute to guarantee Heimir Hallgrímsson’s squad a spot in the playoffs as they overturned a 2-1 deficit to triumph 3-2.

Ireland’s shock victory against Portugal earlier in the week had given them a sliver of hope heading into Sunday’s crucial encounter in Budapest.

Parrott struck twice within 16 minutes to orchestrate the comeback and propel them into Thursday’s playoff draw, where they could potentially meet Wales, Slovakia, Scotland, Czechia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and Kosovo, reports the Mirror.

RTE Sport’s X account shared an edited clip of Doyle enthusiastically dashing around the studio, but the complete footage following the dramatic triumph was filmed off-air and uploaded to social media platform X by user @Liam_D79.

The footage showed Doyle racing through the studio before directing his attention towards the Liverpool midfielder with an explicit outburst. Doyle appears to say: “Suck on that you Liverpool c***.”

He then apologised to former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann, who was also a pundit for their coverage.

Szoboszlai set up Daniel Lukacs for the opening goal within five minutes before his Anfield colleague Milos Kerkez provided the assist for Barnabas Varga’s strike to regain the advantage after Parrott’s spot-kick had equalised matters.

Szoboszlai was devastated at the final whistle after Hungary squandered their opportunity to secure a playoff berth following the loss in the capital.

In his post-match interview, he struggled to articulate his disappointment, telling local media: “Very much,” when asked how deeply his heart was hurting after the setback.
