A West Sussex pub, owned by TV personality and model Jodie Kidd, has announced it will close after members of staff have suffered “physical and verbal” abuse by customers
Model Jodie Kidd, who owns the The Half Moon in Kirdford, West Sussex, has announced the closure of the village pub after members of her staff suffered “physical and verbal” abuse by customers.
Kidd, 46, bought the grade II listed establishment in July 2017, and has been co-running it in the years since. In a post shared on Facebook, The Half Moon pub announced that it will be closing for a period of time after staff have faced abuse and asked people to remember that they are human.
A statement shared at 1.45pm on Saturday, September 20, reads: “We’ve worked hard to create more than just a pub – we’ve built a home. A place for people to come together, enjoy good times, and make memories.
“While we know we won’t be to everyone’s taste, it saddens us that in recent weeks we as a Team have faced abuse – both verbal and physical. We’d like to remind everyone that behind The Half Moon is a team of people who care deeply about what we do. We are human.
“Independent businesses like ours work tirelessly, 7 days a week, driven by passion, love, and integrity to give our best. All we ask in return is respect.
“If you ever feel the need to complain, please do so in a calm, constructive, and polite way — we’re always open to feedback that helps us improve.
“Let’s continue to make The Half Moon a place where kindness, community, and good memories shine the brightest.”
However, just two days later, on Monday (September 22), The Half Moon pub, which is dog-friendly, shared that they would be closing for a few days to give staff members a “well-deserved” break.
The pub owners shared on Facebook: “Our core team will be taking a well-deserved short break this week.
“As many of you know, the work never truly stops behind the scenes, so taking some time to rest and recharge is essential.
“We will be closed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week, and will reopen on Thursday 25th September at 12 Noon as normal.
“Can’t wait to welcome you all this weekend!!”
Kidd’s TV appearances have included spells as contestants on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity Masterchef as well as Channel 4’s The Jump.
The pub is set to reopen on Thursday at 12pm after a three day break for staff members to rest.
On its website, Jodie Kidd shares: “Our wish is to establish a home from home, somewhere vibrant, welcoming and charming, where guests can enjoy exceptional British produce with international flavours inspired by my travels.”
