
Leader Norris had the chance to seal his maiden F1 world championship with one weekend to spare, yet was denied as he missed the podium completely, finishing fourth behind Williams’ Carlos Sainz, and now leads a resurgent Verstappen by only 12 points ahead of a delicious final-day battle at the Yas Marina Circuit in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Piastri finished as runner-up in Qatar and now sits third in the title battle, 16 points adrift of team-mate Norris and four behind Red Bull’s Verstappen with 25 still up for grabs in Abu Dhabi, where Verstappen is on pole ahead of Norris and Piastri.
McLaren have long since wrapped up a second consecutive constructors’ title, their 10th overall, achieving the feat in Singapore back in October.
