Keontez Lewis suffered a horror injury on Saturday evening when chasing an overthrown pass as he crashed into a brick wall during scary scenes

Keontez Lewis suffered a horror injury on Saturday evening when he collided with a brick wall.

Lewis was turning out for Oklahoma Sooners during their 44-0 blow out over Kent City when he collided with the brick wall that surrounds the stadium after running full sprint into one of the end zones chasing an overthrown ball.

The young star received immediate medical attention after the sickening collision and was checked by trainers for several minutes before being stretchered off.

“He was alert,” Oklahoma’s head coach Brent Venables said after the game. “He was in some pain in his back. And I won’t get into all the details, but yeah, he was going full speed, and ran into the wall. You’re dang right, I was very concerned.

“I’m thankful once I got over there, realized based on the things and questions he was answering, was very coherent. [He said], ‘My head’s fine, my legs are fine.’

“Again, just probably being like being in a car wreck, I would guess. I haven’t seen the video of it. I was thankful it seemed and appeared that all things considered he was OK.”

Well wishes have also poured in on social media – with the game being broadcast on American TV.

“Best wishes for Keontez Lewis,” one fan said. “Someone died from exactly this two weeks ago in England. What is it with the brick walls in areas?”

“Scary situation. Pulling for former Badger Keontez Lewis,” a second said. While a third posted: “I think we all can agree it’s time to put some padding on the walls of both end zones!”

“What a scary moment running into the brick wall for an overthrown ball,” a fourth shared. And another added: “Why the hell is there a brick wall just beyond the end zone at the University of Oklahoma stadium?”

Lewis started his college career at UCLA before he transferred to Wisconsin, where he spent two years before going to Southern Illinois last season.

He has since become a starter at the Sooners.
