Former Manchester United forward Louis Saha has shared his true feelings on Marcus Rashford and the narrative surrounding his move to Barcelona in the summer window
Former Manchester United star Louis Saha has revealed why he’s “angry” at Marcus Rashford – despite his brilliant form at Barcelona.
Rashford left United during the summer transfer window to secure a season-long loan switch to Barcelona. Following a spell on loan at Aston Villa in the latter half of last season, the England international made clear his intention to leave Old Trafford in the summer and ultimately achieved his goal when a move to the Camp Nou was completed.
Since completing his Barcelona transfer, Rashford has netted five goals whilst also contributing seven assists, with his most recent coming during their 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in El Clasico on Sunday. Rashford’s displays for the La Liga giants have now sparked a reaction from Saha.
“I’ve always been a fan of Marcus Rashford; his quality is amazing. I was even jealous of his talent, and he’s a nice guy,” Saha said in an interview with BetVictor.
“However, I don’t like the narrative where a player leaves a club like Man Utd, and performs better elsewhere, and then blames United for previous struggles. “As a professional, you need to find solutions, regardless of whether the manager likes you.
“We all face moments where we have to perform on the field, and that wasn’t his response. There were times I saw a player who was out of form, who didn’t want to be there, and that’s not normal.
“It’s not normal to play like that. You might want to request a transfer but, when you’re on the field, you work hard. He wasn’t working hard, something was clearly wrong and he was unhappy.
“You shouldn’t let anything take away your joy on the pitch, because you have a responsibility to your fans. It’s not about the manager, or the club owners; it’s about the thousands of people paying for tickets.
“I get angry because it feels like a waste – and it shows a lack of accountability.
“Now, I’m very happy for him as a football player, not just for me, but for fans all over the world in Barcelona who can now enjoy a terrific player. But, of course, as a Manchester United fan, I’m angry.”
Speaking before the clash with Real Madrid, Rashford told ESPN: “It was so many years in one place. People forget this, but 24 years, 23 years of my life was with Manchester United. So sometimes you just need a change.
“I think maybe this is the case with me and yeah, I’m enjoying everything.”
