Ex-Reform UK MP Rupert Lowe claimed to be someone against the “woke” agenda, but was forced to make a public apology after it was revealed that he likes his coffee a specific way

A former Reform MP has been forced to apologise for admitting to liking his coffee with oat milk – despite urging that he is drastically “anti-woke”.

Rupert Lowe is the independent MP for Great Yarmouth, after he stormed to victory in the constituency in the 2024 general election. Formerly representing Reform UK, the MP has faced major criticism for his gaffes both in and out of parliament, as many brand him a divisive figure.

Throughout his parliamentary career, Rupert has been dogged in controversy; particularly during one moment when he assumed a charity rowing team to be a small boat carrying illegal migrants across the Channel. He also says he is “anti-woke.”

On Friday (October 31), Rupert was forced to issue a public apology to his constituents and supporters when a reporter published a story revealing his coffee preferences. It turned out his favourite hot drink was an oat milk cappuccino from high-street giant Pret a Manger – which apparently is a ‘woke’ choice.

After being spotted in the café ordering his favourite drink, the shocking twist eventually made its way to a national media outlet, via a newsletter. In a hilarious twist, Rupert – a former pal of Reform leader Nigel Farage – was branded an “anti-woke crusader” when he was ridiculed.

Taking to his social media account on Friday, Rupert explained: “Honestly, I did not see the investigator and I had no idea I was being watched. It was an ambush. Alas, that is no excuse.

“As has been reported, an oat milk cappuccino is my hot drink of choice. I am certainly not proud of it.

“I would like to apologise to my constituents who expect so much better, and I want to say a sincere sorry to the wider anti-woke movement. This is undoubtedly a set-back for our cause.”

Rupert then admitted that he “just likes the taste” of the milk, which was the sole reason as to why he ordered it. Addressing the allegations he was turning ‘woke’ due to the environmental impact of drinking milk, he retorted: “I don’t care about my carbon footprint, I really don’t.”

At the end of the statement, he made it clear he was mucking about with his supporters after he sarcastically “made the relevant authorities aware” of his misdeed. He then signed off by adding he would happily answer any questions they might have had.

However, the comments section was soon flocked with messages of ‘faked horror’ and dismay, with many chastising the MP for going against his own ‘agenda’. One somewhat disgruntled user wrote: “This is a terrible carry on Rupert, to think this has been going on for some considerable time probably.

“However your ‘hands up’ approach to being outed by the press is admirable.. all is forgiven, onwards and upwards,” they added. Meanwhile a second user added: “You should be ashamed!”

A third chimed in: “Drink milk like a proper man.” A fourth also gave their perspective, explaining: “Well done for admitting this openly; it’s the first stage of recovery.”
