The UK can expect weather conditions to disrupt travel and traffic and could impact on daily routines, but the fog is unlikely to pose a risk to life or property.

Drivers across the United Kingdom have been told to expect travel disruption as several parts of the country have been issued a yellow weather warning by the Met Office

The Met Office issued the weather warning for parts of the East Midlands, East of England, London and South East England, South West England, Wales, West Midlands for fog until 9am on Wednesday, December 3.

The Met Office has three weather warning categories. A yellow warning means weather conditions are expected to disrupt travel and traffic and could impact on daily routines, but is unlikely to pose a risk to life or property.

“The forecast suggests the regions concerned can expect to see low visibility conditions due to widespread fog,” the Met Office said.

“Fog patches, mainly in rural areas and dense with visibility less than 100 metres in places, should slowly lift and clear this morning.”

The forecaster said road users have the best chance of avoiding traffic delays by checking road conditions, leaving extra journey time or amending plans if necessary.

Road users were also told to make sure their vehicle’s fog lights work before embarking on their journey.

Bus and train services, as well as flights and ferry travel, may also be impacted by the fog.

Areas affected include:

  • Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland in the East Midlands
  • Bedford, Cambridgeshire, Central Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Luton and Peterborough in the East of England
  • Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire and West Berkshire in London and South East England
  • Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire in South West England
  • Herefordshire, Shropshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands Conurbation and Worcestershire in the West Midlands
  • Monmouthshire and Powys in Wales
