The 22-year-old eco-warrior was pictured speaking at the launch of another freedom flotilla mission to provide aid to Gaza in Barcelona on Sunday when he looks became a talking point
Greta Thunberg’s fans have raged at how her new look is being treated on social media. The activist was pictured over the weekend speaking at the launch of her second flotilla mission to bring aid to Gaza.
The 22-year-old, who was wearing a We Are All Palestine Action t-shirt which could see her arrested under the Terrorism Act in the UK, was cheered on by thousands of supporters as they set sail from Barcelona’s port. “This is a mission to challenge the extremely violent, business-as-usual international system that is failing to uphold international law,” Thunberg told the crowd.
The flotilla of dozens of boats is set to be joined by more aid ships from Greece, Italy and Tunisia. Thunberg already tried to reach Gaza on a boat before was detained by Israeli forces and deported.
US media personality Meghan McCain launched a stinging attack on the activist under a video of her defending Palestine. She wrote: “I refuse to take anyone talking about politics seriously with uneven bangs and this sh**** Lord Farquaad hair.” The daughter of 2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain has since deleted the post.
Meghan’s “mean girl comment” sparked a major backlash on X, formerly Twitter. One person wrote: “Surely, you must know what it feels like when someone criticizes your appearance. Do better!’ the critic wrote.”
While another said: “I refuse to take anyone talking about politics seriously when they have to use their last name to get them places,” in reference to the political commentator’s late father.
A third person said: “A person’s appearance has zero to do with their integrity or passion about any cause. You should delete this. It’s beneath even you.”
Meanwhile, other social media users suggested the young world-famous activist looked like a cult animated hero. One person wrote on X: “Greta ‘la he man'”.
Previously, it emerged that Greta’s little sister is a pop star who shared a video of herself singing, dancing and prancing about – even doing the splits – in racy lingerie.
Proving just how different siblings can be, Bea Ernam, who used to go by Beata Thunberg, dressed up in red fishnet stockings, a corset and tonnes of confidence to perform a racy dance routine for the camera, which she then shared on her Instagram stories.
The 19-year-old’s social media account is filled with clips of her belting out some tunes at various events and vids of dance routines. Perhaps also a nod to these dreams, Ernam is the maiden name of mum Melana, who was a former Eurovision contestant and a mezzo-soprano opera singer.
