A teenager was shot in the leg and back in Huyton last night and remains in hospital in a critical condition – a large police cordon was put in place on the street this morning
A 19-year-old has been left ctritically injured after being shot as locals assumed the sounds were fireworks. The teenager was rushed to hospital after being shot in the leg and back around 8.50pm yesterday, November 7.
Emergency services were called to Manley Road, Huyton, Merseyside following reports of a man suffering gunshot wounds outside a property on the street. The victim received initial treatment at the scene before being transported to hospital, where he continues to be in a serious condition.
Police cordoned off the area as officers conducted door-to-door enquiries and reviewed CCTV footage. The cordon remained in place today, November 8, stretching across the entire street from Elizabeth Road to Tarbock Road.
A second, smaller cordon was visible within the larger restricted zone in the middle of Manley Road. Police vans, Matrix vehicles, and crime scene investigators donned in white protective gear were seen at the location.
Residents of Manley Road were asked to provide their names to the police officers present, who indicated that the closure would likely persist throughout today and tomorrow, November 9, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The victim, thought to be a local resident, sustained “significant injuries”, according to police.
One local man told the ECHO: “There was loads (of police) here last night. My bike’s still on the street right now. My daughter rides bikes with his younger brother, so I got a call saying something’s happened and I shot round on my pedal bike. I got there before the police, within a couple of minutes.
“I came in and saw all the commotion and all the people running around. Everyone was up the walls.
“I’ve lived here all my life and I’ve never seen nothing like that. I was quite shocked to be fair. I came halfway down the street and thought ‘what have I come into’?”
A resident on nearby Tarbock Street revealed: “We heard what we thought were fireworks. We don’t know (what time), we can’t work it out. We just thought there’s been loads of fireworks around here. We didn’t even see the police. It wasn’t until somebody knocked about an hour later that we knew.”
Another resident on Elizabeth Street commented: “I did hear a few bangs, but I thought it was Bonfire Night. (I heard) just a ‘bang-bang-bang’. It was the same the night before, only worse. So last night I took no notice.
“The first time I thought there’s something gone on was when I woke up this morning and looked out of the window and saw the police cars here.”
Meanwhile, a shop owner at Everydayz off licence on the corner of Tennyson Road said he witnessed a police helicopter circling overhead last night. Chief Inspector Andy Hughes stated: “We are still in the very early stages of an investigation and we are determined to find the person or people responsible.
“A young man is currently in hospital with significant injuries and I’m sure the community will be utterly appalled at what has happened.
“I want to reassure local residents in the area, as well as the wider Merseyside, that we are taking this incident extremely seriously and we are relentless in our pursuit of those involved in gun crime.
“This is a residential area and there will be people who may have witnessed the incident, and I urge those people to tell us what you know.
“Also, if you have CCTV or dashcam footage, please let us know if you captured anything. Even the smallest of details could prove vital in our investigation.
“Information from the public is vital if we are to breakdown the organised crime groups and I would appeal to anyone who has information to come forward as a matter of urgency.”
