The 23-year-old has been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison in relation to the alleged murder of of two Australian brothers Mexico as their families give statements to the court

A mum has reportedly been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison in relation to the alleged murder of two Australian brothers and their friend in Mexico.

Callum, 33, and Jake, 30, Robinson were on a surfing trip in Baja, Mexico, with their friend Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, when they were reported missing without a trace on April 27 last year.

A few days later, on May 3, the bodies of the surfers were found dead at the bottom of a well alongside a fourth body not directly linked to the case.

Ari Gisell, a 23-year-old single mother and ex girlfriend of Jesús Gerardo has been charged with murder along with two other men, according to the Daily Mail.

The court heard on Thursday that Gisell was the ‘instigator’ as she was interested in the tyres of the car the Robinsons and Mr Rhoad were driving, telling her then-boyfriend she wanted them.

Prosecutors said Jesús Gerardo, accompanied by men Irineo Francisco and Ángel Jesús, came across the Robinsons and Mr Rhoad after dropping Gisell at her home.

The trio then followed the tourists to their camping spot and robbed them before allegedly shooting them dead, the court heard.

Callum and Jake’s mother, Debra Robinson, read a statement during court proceedings, stating her sons’ futures had been stolen from them.

She said: “‘Our hearts are broken beyond repair. The silence in our home is deafening.

“There are no words for the emptiness, the weight of their absence.”

Natalie Weirtz, Carter Rhoad’s widow attended the court hearing virtually with his mother Page.

Ms. Weirtz said: “Carter was the love of my life. He was my safety in the world.

“My life is now a nightmare.”

It is reported that Gisell cried while listening to the testimonies before giving her own apologetic statement.

Before pleading guilty she said: “I know that nothing I can say will compensate or give you peace.

“I am focused on being a better person, and I am so sorry for your losses.

“I assure you that I did not know what would happen that night.”

Gisell pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 14 years in prison for robbery of a vehicle with violence, and a further six years for robbery with violence.

She has also been fined 54,285 Mexican pesos (£2,258).

Jesús Gerardo, Irineo Francisco and Ángel Jesús have all been charged with aggravated homicide in relation to the deaths of the Robinsons and Mr Rhoad.

The three men are yet to enter formal pleas and their trial date has not yet been set. A fourth man, who was allegedly with the accused, has cooperated with authorities, according to prosecutors. He is not believed to have been responsible for the murders or robbery.

Authorities are still hunting a separate fourth suspected murderer, whose nickname is known to prosecutors but will not be shared with the public.
