A cargo aircraft has crashed into the sea after skidding off a runway at Hong Kong International Airport during landing, leaving two people dead

In the early hours of Monday, a cargo plane tragically skidded off the runway at Hong Kong International Airport and crashed into the sea whilst attempting a landing. The horrifying incident claimed two lives and sent shockwaves through the aviation industry.

The doomed flight, inbound from Dubai, was attempting to land around 3.50am when disaster struck. Hong Kong’s airport authority reports that the aircraft veered off the runway during landing, leaving a path of destruction behind.

In the ensuing chaos, four crew members were rescued from the wreckage and rushed to hospital for immediate medical attention, reports the Express.

However, police in the Chinese territories have sadly confirmed that two individuals, thought to be in an airport ground vehicle, have tragically perished in the dreadful event.

As news of the crash reverberates, authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause of the tragedy. Experts are working round the clock to unravel the sequence of events leading up to this catastrophic incident, as the aviation community seeks answers and closure.

Following the devastating crash, the affected runway has been closed, but the airport’s other two runways remain open. Authorities are striving to keep disruption to air traffic to a minimum, according to BBC News.

As the probe into the heartbreaking incident unfolds, the Airport Authority is preparing to face the press in a conference slated for 10:00 local time (02:00 GMT). Officials are anticipated to shed light on the situation and address the mounting public anxiety.

In an effort to bolster the rescue mission, Hong Kong’s Government Flying Service has sent helicopters to hover over the crash site. Additionally, vessels from the Fire Services Department have been mobilised to aid in the search and recovery operation, as per media reports.

This shocking event has sent shockwaves through the aviation world. The Hong Kong International Airport has long been celebrated for its stellar safety record, making this rare and tragic occurrence all the more unsettling.
