Arguably world football’s most famous club rivalry is renewed at the Santiago Bernabeu, with just two points currently separating the fierce rivals at the LaLiga summit before kick-off.

Real Madrid sit top after winning eight of their first nine games this term, with a shock 5-2 drubbing by Atletico Madrid the only blot on their copybook after also making a perfect start under Xabi Alonso in the Champions League, seeing off Juventus in a high-profile contest in midweek.

Barcelona, meanwhile, have won seven in the league, with their only loss to date coming with a surprise 4-1 hammering at the hands of Sevilla earlier this month.

However, they bounced back in last-gasp fashion against Girona last weekend before hitting 10-man Olympiacos for six in the Champions League on Tuesday night as Fermin Lopez netted a hat-trick and Marcus Rashford also notched twice to continue his fine form on loan from Manchester United.

Barca will not have head coach Hansi Flick in the dugout in Madrid this afternoon as the German serves a one-match touchline ban following his late dismissal in the dramatic 2-1 home victory over Girona.
