BROCARDE’S TERRIFYING TRAVELS: Daily Star’s paranormal columnist Brocarde has been brushing shoulders with some big names…of the past. Here, she tells of her time connecting with a metal legend
Lemmy Kilmister’s spirit is still alive at Wacken. He’s still on horseback, but he’s finished eating his pizza. Last year I was invited to Wacken Open Air in Germany to film a commemorative ceremony in honour of Lemmy Kilmister from Motörhead.
I performed a special séance to try to connect with the spirit of Lemmy and see if he was still present on the Holy Ground.
I found him on horseback eating a slice of pizza, this year I wanted to see if he’s still present at Germany’s biggest heavy metal festival.
You may be wondering why would Lemmy’s ghost be at a German metal festival?
Wacken was a special place for Lemmy, he had a close relationship with the festival owners and he’d made his mark by performing at the festival eight times.
In 2023, Wacken Open Air unveiled a tribute to Lemmy and scattered his ashes at the festival site. They also made a permanent memorial to Lemmy, so that he could “return home” and have a final resting place at the festival.
My séance for Lemmy took place at Lemmy’s memorial inside the Landgasthof, which they call ‘Lemmy’s Bar’.
When you arrive at the bar you will be greeted by a huge statue of Lemmy and inside you will find a display of his personal possessions.
From the moment I arrived at Wacken I had a strong sense of Lemmy. The thought of a performing a séance to connect with such a well-loved celebrity did make me nervous, usually when I see a ghost it is a private thing without any expectation.
I was afraid of what I may see and how to vocalise it.
I created a circle of red roses and lit dragons blood sage. I wasn’t using sage to repel any spirit, I was using it to cleanse the space.
Lemmy’s bar was closed for me to conduct this ceremony. But, before I arrived, hundreds of metalheads had passed through the bar, so there were lots of lingering energy of different kinds.
I sat down and I began to conduct a spirit rod session. Privately, I don’t usually use any tools or devises to communicate with spirits and I hate the idea of conjuring ghosts.
Since I’ve been filming paranormal explorations, I’ve found that spirit rods can confirm the energy and apparitions I’m sensing, for those watching.
It was immediately apparent that Lemmy does not like spirit rods and did not want to play by the rules!
I secretly loved that.
This is one of the few occasions where my spirit rods failed to move, even to confirm what meant ‘yes’ and what meant ‘no’.
Instead, I was becoming intoxicated by this heavy rebellious spirit – and I started to feel emotional.
I forgot that there was a room of people watching me and filming me. I was experiencing a very vivid apparition of Lemmy on a black stallion eating a slice of pizza.
I blurted out what I was seeing, fully aware of how bizarre that would sound, but I didn’t want to overthink it.
I was terrified of being hated or for people to think I was joking, this apparition was a charming representation of Lemmy and I wanted to share it.
A few weeks later, I was fortunate enough to sit down with Phil Campbell who was Lemmy’s bandmate in Motörhead but, more than that, a close personal friend.
I was touched by the amount of emotion Phil showed when talking about Lemmy, years after his death, there’s not a day that passes when Lemmy isn’t in his thoughts.
I wanted to share my apparition of Lemmy with Phil and he told me not to dismiss what I’d seen. Phil told me that when Lemmy was alive he constantly spoke about riding horses and one of his favourite foods was pizza, as long as it had no mushrooms on it!
He also told me that Lemmy believed in ghosts and had experienced many sightings himself.
Suddenly, my apparition was starting to make sense. Some people have a theory that in death we return to places where we felt happy and partake in things that we love.
I often get asked why people see ghosts of celebrities, it’s simply because celebrities are entities that don’t want to be forgotten.
In life, rock stars fight hard for the limelight. They are huge powerful enigma’s with undeniable energy and presence, often after death this energy can live on.
So, in so many ways, Lemmy’s energy lives on at Wacken. I felt his presence again this year, still on horseback, but he’d finished eating his pizza.
I hope his energy continues to live on in many ways for years to come…
