A female accomplice of sick Ian Watkins lied about her conviction and befriended a fellow probationer before posing for pictures with her new friend’s son at before her horror crimes were revealed
A woman has told of her horror after unwittingly befriending a female accomplice of depraved Ian Watkins — who offered her own child up to be abused by the paedophile. Sick Watkins, 48, was killed in prison while serving 29 years for child sex offences.
He was locked up in the notorious HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire after being convicted of a string of charges, including engaging in sexual activity with a child and the attempted rape of an 11-month-old baby.
Now, a woman has told how she became friends with one of the Lostphrophets frontman’s accomplices in 2021, and even invited her to her baby son’s birthday party alongside 10 other children and their parents.
Bethany Jones — not her real name — told how she was on an 18-month rehabilitation order for drugs charges when she met the female paedophile at a probation facility.
The warped fan, known as ‘Woman B’ during her 2013 trial, had recently come out of prison after serving seven years, and told Bethany she’d been jailed for assaulting a former partner.
Bethany never suspected the truth and watched as Woman B played with the children at the party, held Bethany’s son in her arms and posed for a photo which she later shared to Facebook.
It wasn’t until late 2024 that Bethany found out that her friend, who she described as “one of the nicest people she’d ever met”, was in truth a warped fan who had given Watkins her own baby to sexually abuse and rape.
The grim revelation came to light after Woman B failed a DBS check when applying for a job and word got back to the company Bethany was working at.
Woman B – who was sentenced to 17 years for conspiring to rape a child, three sexual assault charges and four charges of taking, possessing or distributing indecent images – is now back behind bars.
She she was freed at the automatic release point of her sentence in June 2021 – but her licence was revoked, and she was recalled to custody the following September for lying about her relationships and concern about “other behaviour”.
Bethany says this related to a “step-daughter” – the daughter of a new partner – who she was living with contrary to her sentencing conditions.
Bethany told the Daily Mail: “Because she had a step-child, I never imagined she could have done anything like that to any kids. She used to go to parks and children’s parties with her stepdaughter. Nobody had a clue.
“When I found out last year who she was, I felt sick. When I learned Watkins had died, everything froze in me. All the feelings have come back up. At the time I would have had no problems asking [Woman B] to babysit my son. I never did, thank God.
“Because her name wasn’t shared, she is protected, and the public aren’t. Her identity was protected to protect her son’s identity, but how does that stop something like this happening again?'”
Bethany said the pair struck up a friendship and would meet for coffee after their probation meetings, where Woman B told her she’d been in a fight with an ex-partner and had “whacked him”.
Woman B said she had a new partner, with a seven-year-old daughter, who she would often take care of while her partner worked. Given her own past, Bethany believed in second chances and had no concerns about welcoming this new friend into her life.
So when her son’s second birthday rolled around, Bethany invited Woman B to her son’s party, along with her stepdaughter. Bethany said: “She was one of the nicest people I’d ever met. She came to the party and was holding my little boy.”
Bethany says Woman B was recalled to prison because officials found out she was in close contact with children, despite being on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
In the trial against Watkins and two accomplices, Mr Justice Royce told Woman B that she did not regard her child as a human being. He said: “You had detailed discussions with Watkins about the sexual acts to which the two of you were going to subject your infant.”
In 2013, Watkins was sentenced to 35 years in prison for engaging in sexual activity with a child and the attempted rape of an 11-month-old baby. He was also convicted of 11 other offences at Cardiff Crown Court.
The depraved singer tried to rape a fan’s baby girl, while he also encouraged another to abuse her own child in a webcam chat. His throat was slashed in prison earlier this month as inmates left their cells.
Prisoners Rashid Gedel, 25, whose name was given in court as Rico Gedel, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43, have been charged with murder. Two other inmates have been arrested in connection with Watkins’ death.
