ITV I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star Jack Osbourne received his diagnosis back in 2012

At the age of 26, I’m A Celebrity star Jack Osbourne plunged into an icy lake whilst filming his supernatural television programme Haunted Highway.

Upon emerging from the water, he was struck by a severe migraine-style headache, and the following morning he awoke to discover his vision had become blurred.

As his condition deteriorated, the son of rock legend Ozzy and Sharon – who is now appearing in ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! – made his way to hospital.

Following an MRI scan and lumbar puncture, doctors delivered a diagnosis of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.

This neurological autoimmune disorder has no known cure and can impact every aspect of the body, as the immune system launches attacks on the brain and spinal cord, reports Birmingham Live.

The condition can influence everything from vision and bladder and bowel control, through to movement, cognitive function and the ability to swallow.

Jack, who is now 39, had only celebrated the arrival of his daughter Pearl three weeks prior to receiving the devastating news. Subsequently, he found himself without employment.

During a previous interview with TalkTV, he revealed: “I did lose a job. At one point, shortly after my initial diagnosis, they were worried that I wouldn’t have been able bodied enough.

“That comes down to a lot of people not really understanding what MS is. And, as I like to say it’s as unique to the individual that has it, as their own fingerprint.

“I might meet someone who’s the same age as me who got diagnosed the same day as me and our symptoms could be drastically different.”

He subsequently opened up at Steel City Con, revealing: “Professionally, it was a problem early on where I couldn’t get hired on productions because they deemed me an insurance risk because I had a neurological disorder.

“They were like, ‘Oh, yeah, it’s too dangerous.” He described finding it “really insulting”.

Looking back, he recognised he’d been experiencing other symptoms for several years, including numbness in both legs and difficulties with his bladder, bowel, and stomach.

Jack now must inject Copaxone medication daily and has completely transformed his lifestyle.

He relies on vitamin supplements and hormone replacement therapy, and has journeyed to Europe for stem cell treatment.

He’s also implemented lifestyle modifications including reducing stress, maintaining regular exercise, and dramatically changing his diet.

He previously stated: “Right now am I going to be in a wheelchair? No. But if I don’t take care of myself, who knows?”.

During his stint on Dancing with the Stars in 2013, Jack revealed that he wasn’t experiencing “any severe symptoms other than the odd bit of tingling down my leg and the occasional bout of fatigue.”

I’m A Celebrity is on ITV1 and ITVX
