Emmerdale issued a huge Anthony Fox update on Wednesday’s episode

Emmerdale was full of explosive scenes on Wednesday night as it featured John Sugden’s escape plan.

Soap watchers will recall that John has been on the run since his crimes were exposed thanks to husband Aaron Dingle and Mackenzie Boyd, who John tried to kill.

The duo have told the village of what John is really capable of, including him killing Nate Robinson and unleashing terror on some of the villagers as all part of his hero complex.

Earlier this week, Cain Dingle went about his revenge plan after learning John killed his son Nate with brother Caleb Milligan helping him. This involved Caleb tricking John into thinking he was going to drive him to Rotterdam and let him escape.

As part of the plan, John claimed he had scheduled an email to the police revealing everything about Anthony Fox’s murder, including those involved, evidence and even where Anthony’s body is buried.

Viewers will remember that abusive Anthony was killed by daughter Ruby Milligan earlier this year with John disposing of the body. However, it was later revealed that he had lied about Anthony’s grave and had kept his body’s true whereabouts secret.

With the brothers threatening John in the woods with a shotgun, Caleb soon had a change of heart as he worried about John’s email, which would incriminate his wife Ruby and their family.

As Cain held John hostage with the shotgun vowing deadly revenge, Caleb knocked his brother out with a shovel as the gun went off. Thankfully, no one was injured, and the duo put Cain in the boot of his car.

Caleb then headed off with John in his van, promising to take him to Rotterdam so he could go on the run but in agreement he had to delete the scheduled email.

After nearly getting caught by officers doing routine checks on cars and vans, the duo managed to get away with their plan. As the episode came to an end, John was grateful for Caleb’s help as he decided to show his trust too.

John handed over a note, revealing where Anthony is buried, before showing Caleb he had deleted his scheduled email.

Meanwhile, Cain managed to break out his car’s boot as he sped off in search of his brother and John…

With Anthony now confirmed officially dead, this means Ruby could be arrested for murder if the truth ever came out.

Meanwhile, with John known for lying, will he really keep schtum from the police?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
