Reality TV mogul and businesswoman Kim Kardashian delivered an eight-word desperate appeal after losing her composure at the 2025 Academy Museum Gala on October 18, according to a lip-reading expert.
The 44-year-old mum-of-four was virtually unidentifiable as she arrived at the Los Angeles event sporting a Maison Margiela couture nude ensemble complete with a mask that entirely concealed her face.
Despite turning heads in her striking faceless outfit, which left fans feeling unsettled online, Kardashian revealed she was still fully made up beneath the covering.
Regardless of whether she had a complete makeup look under the peculiar nude draping, Kardashian struggled to navigate her surroundings and nearly tumbled face-first.
Lip-reading specialist Nicola Hickling examined footage shared on People’s Instagram account showing Kardashian being assisted into the venue, with an aide supporting her nude dress as she gestured frantically to avoid falling.
Hickling told Mirror US: “Using advanced video enhancement software, I analyzed the footage frame by frame and isolated Kim Kardashian’s speech patterns beneath her mask allowing me to confidently determine what she said to her assistant.”
Hickling then revealed: “Kim appears visibly unsettled, she waves her hands in disbelief and shakes her head before insisting, ‘Don’t let go, I can’t see a thing.’
“She seems momentarily panicked and unsteady. Her assistant stays calm and supportive, replying, ‘Don’t worry, I’ve got you. I’ll lead you, just hold onto my hand.'”
The lipreader went on to observe, “Kim regains her composure and together they begin to walk away with more confidence.”
Meanwhile, Kardashian left her followers feeling unsettled by the peculiar ensemble. She completed the look with a multi-layered crystal-adorned choker featuring emerald stones and cross charms, plus a matching ring.
She shared footage of herself making light of her concealed appearance before the event. In the clip, she questioned her makeup artist Mario Dedivanoic, “Mario, do I look okay? The make-up?” He playfully responded, “Your make-up looks amazing, yes.”
Kardashian then remarked, “It’s good? All that hard work guys. I feel like I always do this to Mario, though.”
Whilst some described the appearance as “interesting” and one admirer called Kim “next level fabulous,” others weren’t entirely impressed with her sartorial selection.
Several observers noted that the ensemble brought back memories of her completely covered look from the 2021 Met Gala, where she accompanied her former spouse, Kanye West. During that 2021 appearance, Kardashian donned a black face covering that obscured her entire head as part of a Balenciaga creation.
Reacting to the celebrity’s Saturday evening appearance, one fan posted on X, “You can still see the Kanye in her.”
“Was she styled by Kanye?” one queried, while another penned, “She misses Kanye I see… Because this is ridiculous.” Another added, “She looks ridiculous. Must be a leftover from crazy Kanye.”

Her appearance at the event followed a family gathering the previous day, where the Skims founder joined her sister Kylie Jenner in celebrating the 10th anniversary of Kylie Cosmetics at a pop-up event. Both Jenner and Kardashian turned heads in matching, figure-hugging latex dresses.
