Liverpool hero Neil Mellor, who put himself in Anfield folklore with a strike against Arsenal, was once inundated with offers to marry his daughter

Neil Mellor might not have expected quite the response he got when he shared it was his daughter’s 19th birthday.

Mellor, who himself celebrated his birthday last week, was inundated with marriage proposals from cheeky football fans: “Happy Birthday to my amazing daughter,” he said.

However, the post would go viral as fans asked the Anfield hero – best known for his stoppage-time winner against Arsenal in 2004 – if he needed a son-in-law.

One fan posed: “Do you need a son-in-law?” While another added: “Am still single in case you need a son-in-law.”

“Don’t think we’ve met before Neil, I’m your son-in-law – nice to finally meet you,” a third joked. And another added: “Fair play mate she’s a stunner. Have a great day celebrating with the family. YNWA!”

The saga saw Mellor briefly trending on X, formerly known as Twitter, with one post alone earning over 100,000 likes. Mellor’s daughter, Nicole, replied to her dad’s post: “Thank you! Lots of love!”

Nicole has over 6,000 followers on Instagram, where she shares snaps of her jet-setting lifestyle including pictures from the UK, the USA, and Portugal.

And away from her social media page, she is, unsurprisingly, a model and dancer.

Mellor rose through Liverpool’s academy, making his first-team debut under Rafa Benitez in 2004 – the same year as his Arsenal heroics.

He would also come off the bench to assist Steven Gerrard for his famous strike against Olympiacos that sent Liverpool through to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

It was the turning point of their European campaign that culminated with that famous night in Istanbul.

He left Liverpool in 2006, and went on to have a successful spell with Preston North End. After hanging up his boots, Mellor has been working as a pundit and is often seen on TNT Sports.
