Liverpool shattered the British transfer fee record twice in one summer when they signed Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for £125m after completing a £116m deal for Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
Those signings of the Swedish striker and German attacking midfielder formed part of a staggering £446m summer splurge by the champions as they aim to retain their Premier League title. And now, despite the summer transfer window having only shut 10 days ago, the Reds are being backed to smash the transfer record for a third occasion within 12 months.
Having won three games from three in the Premier League so far this season with dramatic victories over Bournemouth, Newcastle and title rivals Arsenal that thrilled fans, Arne Slot’s side return to action this weekend with a trip to newly-promoted Burnley.

Olise approach
It would allegedly come as ‘no great surprise’ if Liverpool were to table Bayern Munich a £138m bid for Michael Olise next year.
Absolut Fussball suggests it would be equally predictable if City and Paris Saint-Germain were to follow suit, reports the Liverpool Echo, with the 23-year-old star one of the hottest properties in European football.
They also claim it’s reasonable to expect that Real Madrid are monitoring the France international keenly, given his meteoric rise since his Crystal Palace days.
There’s recognition that next summer’s World Cup could push the winger’s market worth beyond its current £86m valuation, particularly after Olise has already netted five goals in six appearances for club and country this campaign.
Wirtz assessment
Dietmar Hamann has branded Florian Wirtz’s opening displays in Liverpool colours as “pretty average” after his huge summer switch from Bayer Leverkusen.
Former Reds midfielder Hamann told Sports Mole: “His confidence is obviously affected by the average start he’s had to his Liverpool career.”
Discussing the 22-year-old’s start to life at Anfield, Hamann added: “He said in an interview that he might need a few more games. He shouldn’t need too many more.
“Still a young kid, but the start has not been good. You’ve got to give him the benefit of the doubt because the game is different in England.”
However, the ex-Germany international also declared: “I’ve got no doubt whatsoever that he will succeed in England.”
Wirtz is yet to score or assist for Liverpool in three Premier League games, but showed glimpses of his talent in the closing stages of the 1-0 win over Arsenal.
