Manchester United look set to make at least one signing on deadline day as talks with goalkeepers Emi Martinez and Senne Lammens advance

Manchester United are set for a busy deadline day as Ruben Amorim looks to add at least one more goalkeeper to his squad.

United’s pursuit of a new shot stopper has intensified since the start of the season, owing to Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir both making calamitous mistakes just four games into the new season.

Talks have progressed with Aston Villa for Emi Martinez, who was left out of their clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday night, and Royal Antwerp stopper Senne Lammens.

Meanwhile, two core members of the bomb squad will ideally be moved on, with Antony and Jadon Sancho yet to depart Old Trafford despite being told they have no future at the club.

Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at what’s in store for United on deadline day.

At least one goalkeeper looks set to be signed on Monday. United have had all summer to correct the glaring problem that is their goalkeepers, but the Reds look set to scramble around in the dying hours of the window instead.

After speculation linking them to Gianluigi Donnarumma went cold, attention turned to a cheaper alternative in Lammens, who reportedly has a £17million price tag. While links to Martinez virtually started the day after last season ended.

Martinez is said to cost United £40m, and has reportedly agreed personal terms over a move to Old Trafford.

Carlos Baleba situation

United’s pursuit of Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba increased greatly a couple of weeks ago before Benjamin Sesko was signed from RB Leipzig for £73.7m.

The Athletic had previously claimed that United are interested in Baleba as they seek to strengthen their midfield ranks before the summer transfer window shuts. While reports suggested the Reds had approached Brighton through intermediaries to explore possible terms for a deal.

But according to the Manchester Evening News, United are willing to postpone any pursuit of the midfielder until next year, with senior figures acknowledging a move on deadline day is incredibly unlikely.

Baleba’s £100m price tag has put off United making a move this summer, but it’s certainly a chase that looks set to develop over the course of the season.

Antony and Sancho exits

Meanwhile, United are also hoping to see the back of Antony and Sancho before the deadline.

United accepted a permanent bid for Antony on Saturday evening but the move currently appears to be off after Betis withdrew their offer, saying they couldn’t afford the fee or the Brazilian’s wages. But there may still be time for a compromise to be reached.

For Sancho, deadline day appears to be a quiet one after the England international’s demands have made it incredibly difficult to find a club willing to accept his terms.

However, the big spending Turkish Super Lig window doesn’t end until September 12, and the Saudi Pro League window is open until September 10.
