Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp has issued an update to fans who were left “worried” for him after finding out he’d suffered a “terrible” accident with a chainsaw
Martin Kemp has updated fans after his “terrible” chainsaw accident.
The Spandau Ballet star reassured fans that he is “alright” after the nasty incident while wielding the dangerous tool. Martin, 64, was trying to chop down a branch in the garden but he accidentally picked up the chainsaw by the blade.
Son Roman Kemp admitted it’s lucky his famous dad wasn’t left “fingerless” after the accident. The rocker had to have his fingers “heavily strapped up” in bandages.
Martin has now taken to social media to update fans on how he’s doing. In an Instagram video, he showed fans his bandaged fingers and explained: “Hey guys, just a little message. You might have seen in the papers that I had a terrible accident with a chainsaw, which I did, but it was last week.
“‘I’m a lot better now. And just to let you know, if you were worried and you are going to Lincoln Cathedral tonight for the DJ gig, it is still on.
“But I appreciate your concerns. And listen, it’s getting better by the minute.”
Laughing about the mishap, he added: “I will explain how it happened another time, but just to reassure you, I am alright.” Signing off, he said: “Lots of love, bye.”
Roman revealed his dad’s chainsaw blunder on his You About podcast with singer Tom Grennan. He recalled how shocked he was when Martin sent a pic of his bandaged fingers into the family group chat.
The radio star said: “It’s scary. Friday night I’d just finished work and looked at my phone, and dad sent a picture of his hand with all fingers heavily strapped up.
“And all he writes underneath in the family WhatsApp group is ‘yep… chainsaw.'” Roman continued: “I was texting him saying ‘what?!’ but got no reply, and then Harley my sister is like ‘what’s happened?’ but again, no reply.
“So he said ‘Oh there was a bit of the branch that we wanted chopping down so I went and got a chainsaw.”
Roman reckoned his dad shouldn’t have been handling a chainsaw at all and should have gotten a professional over to sort out the branch. he said: “He’s 65. He’s got more than enough dough. Get a professional in, you can’t be doing that.”
He added: “My dad said ‘Oh yeah I picked it up by the blade’.” Grennan said it was like a “horror film”.
The singer couldn’t resist a risky joke, either, quipping that Roman’s mum wouldn’t be pleased if his dad lost his fingers. A shocked Roman replied: “Yeah because he wouldn’t be able to play guitar, exactly.”
