Melania Trump was accused of giving Queen Camilla the cold shoulder during the state visit this week – and a seriously cringe-worthy moment was captured on camera
The Trumps visited the UK for a state visit this week – and it’s certainly been eventful. Members of the British public have been tuning in to see Donald and Melania meeting the Royal Family and Prime Minister in recent days.
But while the trip seems to have been a success – with Melania even cracking a rare smile when out with the Princess of Wales – there have been some seriously awkward moments too.
One of these cringe-worthy occurrences happened during the state banquet, when the First Lady appeared to “ignore” Queen Camilla. The uncomfortable situation was caught on camera and people have been discussing it on TikTok ever since.
In a short clip that’s been viewed more than 200,000 times, the Queen is spotted saying something to Melania. However, she turns away and appears to be talking to Prince William instead.
One person said: “She is the Queen Consort who is the host. That’s rude of her.” Another said: “Poor Camilla, she’s talking to herself.” Meanwhile, a third accused: “Melania – not professional.”
However, some people had sympathy for Melania and noted, in her defence, she was speaking to another person at the time.
Someone else wrote: “She wasn’t ignoring Queen Camilla, she was engaged in a conversation with somebody else. Just because Camilla is Queen doesn’t mean etiquette flies out of the window.”
Another said: “People are so mean. It’s not ignoring. Melania and Queen Camilla are just talking to another person who is sitting next to Melania.”
One more remarked: “Melania was not ignoring Queen Camilla. She was talking to Prince William.”
During his whirlwind 48-hour trip, Donald Trump met the King, Queen, other Royals, the Prime Minister, the PM’s wife, members of the baying British media, and for some reason, Kemi Badenoch who bagged a selfie with him during the State Banquet.
Stand-out moments included the US President bizarrely claiming he’s solved “seven wars” and that Russia and the Ukraine will “get done” in due course.
The so-called “special relationship” of the UK and US was on full display – but only time will tell if it will actually have any impact.
