The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain covering 31 areas in the South West and parts of Wales, with the alert in place from midnight until 2pm on Wednesday
Britons are being urged to prepare for hours of relentless downpour and possibly assemble an “emergency” kit as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning encompassing 31 regions.
The caution is in effect from midnight until 2pm on Wednesday, with meteorologists alerting that flooding, travel chaos and potential power outages could hit the South West and parts of Wales.
The Met Office has advised residents within the warning zone to assess if their property is at risk of flooding and, if required, devise a flood plan and emergency kit. According to the Met Office, this kit should contain vital items such as food, water, first aid supplies and crucial documents in case of evacuation.
Brits are also encouraged to ensure everyone knows the location of this kit and what actions to take if their area is affected by flooding.
The weather experts advised: “Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary. Check if your property could be at risk of flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.”
The Met Office further warned that spray and standing water on roads could prolong and complicate journeys, while bus and train services may also face disruptions. In the most severely impacted areas, a few homes and businesses might experience flooding and some communities could encounter interruptions to power and other essential services.
WXCharts’ sophisticated weather prediction maps indicate bands of rain sweeping across parts of the UK tomorrow, with the Midlands and the North West likely to experience heavy showers.
The Met Office’s yellow warning encompasses vast areas of southern England and Wales. In Wales, cities like Cardiff and Swansea, along with nearby towns, are in the crosshairs.
Downpours are anticipated in South West locations such as Exeter, Plymouth, Torquay, Taunton, Bath, Bristol and sections of Gloucester.
Weather experts are advising motorists to prepare in advance and factor in extra travel time. They also recommend that train and bus users verify schedules before embarking on their journey, as services may be delayed or cancelled.
The Met Office has cautioned that weather conditions can shift rapidly and encourages people to stay informed about the latest warnings.
