Michael Schumacher’s health remains a closely guarded secret, but there have been a few subtle signs that the Formula One legend may be on the road to recovery

A Formula One insider has provided a ray of hope about Michael Schumacher’s health, hinting that there could be minor signs of progress in his condition.

Stefan L’Hermitt, a journalist for L’Equipe, has suggested that the racing legend’s state might have shown some advancement, 11 years following his catastrophic skiing mishap. Speaking to Le Grand Recit, he revealed: “I would say he’s not doing well, but he might be getting better because fundamentally we don’t know anything.

“This year, he signed a helmet for a charity event. Was it his wife who held his hand? We don’t know exactly, but it’s the first time we’ve had a kind of positive sign, almost a sign of life.”

In a moving display earlier this year, Schumacher put his signature on the helmet of motorsport legend Sir Jackie Stewart, alongside scores of other racers in an emotional act that has sparked fresh optimism amongst supporters for his recovery.

His spouse, Corrina, is thought to have helped him, as his initials ‘M. S’ were visible on the lower right section of the white helmet, reports the Mirror.

L’Hermitt continued by stating that whilst he hasn’t been given any direct information about Schumacher’s state, he suspects the F1 champion remains unable to talk or engage in conversation.

“So we’re still dealing with someone who is still breathing, who might have some small interactions with his family, but we can’t say for sure that he’s doing well,” he concluded. Since his tragic skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013, there has been minimal news or sightings of Schumacher.

His wife, Corinna, has maintained a close-knit circle around him to preserve his privacy.

Last year, speculation was rampant that he had attended his daughter Gina’s wedding on the island, with guests and staff allegedly asked to hand over their mobile phones.

Security staff were also believed to have ensured that no one could disrupt the ceremony or celebrations.

However, these claims were refuted by Schumacher’s former Benetton teammate Johnny Herbert, who said: “From what I understand, that was all fake news.”
